The Raspberry Pi 2 Model B, a performance-enhanced version of the Raspberry Pi, which gained popularity as a business-card-sized single-board computer, is now available.

Oriospec, where it is now in stock, has already run out of the product and expects the next shipment to arrive in early March.


The "Raspberry Pi 2 Model B" is a single board computer measuring 86 (W) x 20 (H) x 56 (D) mm and is a higher-end model of the Raspberry Pi. Compared to the previous model "Raspberry Pi Model B+," the "Raspberry Pi 2 Model B" uses a more powerful CPU and doubles the memory capacity, increasing processing power up to six times.

The CPU has been changed from the ARM11-based "Broadcom BCM2835" (1 core/700 MHz clock) to the Cortex-A7 "Broadcom BCM2836" (4 cores/900 MHz). Memory capacity has been increased from 512MB to 1GB. There are no other major changes, and the power supply is the same as before: micro USB (5V). Power consumption is 3W.

Video output is HDMI and composite. Audio output is via a 3.5mm jack. Other interfaces include 10/100BASE-T Ethernet, USB 2.0 x 4, GPIO (40-pin), and microSD card slot.

In addition to this, Microsoft has announced the free availability of Windows 10 for Raspberry Pi 2 in the next Windows version, Windows 10 for Raspberry Pi 2. Details of this will be announced at a later date.
