Toshiba's MQ02ABD100H hybrid HDD with 8GB MLC is now available!

Toshiba has released the MQ02ABD100H, a hybrid HDD or SSHD with 8GB MLC NAND flash memory.

The MQ02ABD100H is a 1TB capacity, 9.5mm thick, 2.5-inch SATA-connected HDD that uses MLC NAND flash memory based on a second-generation 19nm manufacturing process. This enables more effective control.

The same mechanism as before is used to improve performance by automatically placing frequently accessed data on the NAND flash between the buffer (DRAM) that once receives the data and the magnetic disk that stores the received data.

The main specifications are: SATA 6Gbps interface, 5400 rpm rotation speed, 64MB buffer capacity, and power consumption of 3.3W during read, 3W during write, and 0.75W during idle.

Incidentally, the main specifications that have been changed from the previous model " MQ01ABD100H " are NAND flash (SLC → MLC), buffer capacity (32MB → 64MB), and drive noise (seek 24 dB, idle 23 dB → 25 dB for both idle and seek).
