Knights of Sidonia the Movie" to Extend Screening at Shinjuku Wald 9! Box-office revenue approaches 50 million yen in the first 10 days of its release.

The anime film "Knights of Sidonia the Movie" has been in theaters since March 6, and the screening has been extended at Shinjuku Wald 9.


Knights of Sidonia" is an anime work based on the science fiction manga by Tsutomu Nibei, who is known worldwide for his works such as "BLAME! It depicts a battle between the survivors of human beings traveling through space and Gauna, an interactive alien creature that destroys the solar system. Animation production was handled by Polygon Pictures. The film version will be a reconstruction of all 12 episodes of the TV series, with new cuts and sound effects added. The second TV anime season, "Knights of Sidonia: The Battle of the Ninth Planet," is scheduled to begin in April 2015.

The film, which has been in limited release for two weeks at 27 theaters nationwide since March 6, has been gaining popularity by word-of-mouth since it ranked third in the mini-theater rankings in its first week, and finally ranked first in the box office with approximately 10 million yen over the two days last weekend (according to Kogyo Tsushinsha). As a result, box-office revenue for the 10-day period (March 6-15) totaled approximately 47 million yen. In response to this strong performance, the screening of the film at the main theater, Shinjuku Wald 9, has been extended. The screening schedule and other details will be announced on the theater's website at a later date.


Incidentally, the film ranked second in the Pia Movie Satisfaction Ranking for the first day of the movie from March 6 to 7, and on social networking sites people were saying, "The sound and visuals are amazing! The film version is dramatic!" and "The movie version is dramatic!
