We take a closer look at the ongoing Haruna Runi, who has broadened her range of expression!

Pop and colorful new album. A more life-size version of herself!

─ ─ It's been about a year and a half since your last album "OVERSKY", the release of your second album, hasn't it?
Haruna: Yes, it's finally finished and I'm happy to be able to share it with you all. For the past year and a half, we have been releasing singles consistently, but I feel that the album is finally finished.

Candy Lips" contains four singles: "snowdrop," "Startear," "Kimiiro Signal," and the limited-edition "Runatic Word. But the coupling songs for each single are not included. I felt it was a consideration for the fans who bought the singles.

Haruna: It was the same with "OVERSKY," but we want to include many new songs on the album, so we generally don't include coupling songs. This time, since a tour is scheduled for May after the album release, I wanted to deliver many new songs even more so.

─ ─ There are seven new songs, so I think this album will be fresh even for fans who have been following the singles. What did you want the album to be like overall?
Haruna: As you can probably tell from the album title "Candy Lips," I decided to include more pop and cute songs this time. But there are also some sexy songs and ballads in the album as a gap from the image of Runa Haruna, so there are a lot of songs in the album.

─ ─ Prior to this album, I felt Haruna's pop line from her latest single "Kimiiro Signal" released in January this year. I wondered if your direction as an artist had changed a bit.
Haruna: Compared to the last album, I feel that the color has changed drastically. I feel that the one-man live performance ("HARUNA Luna LIVE 2014-WINTER-" at Shibuya Public Hall on December 12, 2014) has determined the direction for me.

─ ─ When you first debuted, you had a gothic and lolita atmosphere, didn't you?
Haruna: Yes, my costumes used to be mostly black and white, but recently I have started to incorporate color. I think I can be more myself when I wear colorful clothes and sing pop songs like I do now. I feel that I enjoy my live performances more now.

─ ─ In the new song "Otome no Wish", there is a lyric "Ponytail, twintail, which do you like better? in the new song "Otome no wisheshi. I think these words most accurately express Haruna's image change.
Haruna: It's a lyric about wondering which hairstyle to wear before a date (laughs).

─ ─ I interpreted the twin-tail hairstyle as more of the gothic Haruna of the past, and the ponytail hairstyle as a way to broaden her image as an artist for this album.
Haruna You could say that. I felt that at the live performance, the smiles on everyone's faces while singing pop songs made me feel like they were having a lot of fun. I felt like this is what I should express, and I became more conscious of my pop self.

─ What you felt at the live performance was the direct reaction of the audience, wasn't it?
Haruna: Yes. Of course, I would like to continue to show my ability to sing dramatic songs like the debut single "Sora ha Takaku Kaze ha Utau" (The Sky Is High, The Wind Is Singing), but I also felt strongly during the one-man live that I wanted to emphasize the importance of being cheerful and excited together with the audience.

The lead song on the album, "Minna Tetsumo Kimi ga Suki" is a straightforward love song!

─ The first song on the album is "Prologue ~Candy Lips~". It is a short instrumental, with Haruna's voice at the end announcing the beginning of the album.

Haruna: I wanted to convey first of all the expansion of the pop worldview through the sound. My voice is also pop and cute, and it leads to the second song, "Kimiiro Signal," which I like so much that I want to reproduce this flow at live performances.

I like it so much that I want to reproduce it in live performances. Kimiiro SIGNAL" is a very pop song, and it is the single that set the tone for this album, wasn't it?

Haruna: I have sung pop songs in the past, like "Aiwoutae," but "Kimiiro Signal" was the first time I sang a song that was this pop-oriented. It was fun to sing, and I think I was able to express myself as I really am.

─ The two coupling songs on the "Kimiiro SIGNAL" single are all pop songs, which made me feel that you were going the 80's idol route. It was one of those singles that made me feel like, "Oh my God, they're going the 80's idol route! I liked the colorful world in which Haruna Luna sang.

Haruna: It was a lot of fun making it (laughs). (laughs) There are many songs along the same lines in the album.

─ ─ The third song, "Minna tada kimi ga suki" (Everyone absolutely loves you), is just like that.

Haruna It's the lead song on the album, and it's about a girl who overcomes the trials of love. I want to make the person I'm in love with say, "It has to be you! I wanted to make the person I was in love with say, "It has to be you," and I could really relate to that.

It's a straight love song, isn't it?

Haruna It's pretty straightforward (laughs). It's a love push. The chorus is repeated over and over again, and I felt excited when I sang it, and I think it's a phrase that everyone can easily hum.

The lyrics of the chorus are catchy anyway, such as "Everyone absolutely loves you x7" and "Eternal (≒A-class) L♡ve".

Haruna: I want to have a lot of fun at the live performance when I repeat the word "absolute" seven times. There are many songs on this album that I would like to sing with others. The lyrics of "永久(≒A級) L♡ve!" are interesting when you see them in written form. I would like you to check it out in the music video.

───The song "Minna tada kimi ga suki" has been pre-distributed since March 11, and the music video has already been released, hasn't it?

Haruna: It's a live performance of me by myself in a purikura machine. The lyrics are superimposed on my singing figure in a Purikura-like atmosphere. During the filming, I had to move in sync with the song, and if I made a mistake, I had to reshoot the entire scene from the beginning, so I had to be very focused. It turned out to be very interesting, so I hope you enjoy it.

─ So you had the camera in the same position as the camera on the purikura machine, so you had to keep the camera rolling while you were inside the machine?

Haruna: That's right! So the camera didn't move at all, so I had to pay attention to the angles, such as timing myself to get close to the camera for a close-up.

─ ─ The cameraman didn't have to move, but it must have been hard for you, Haruna (laughs).

Haruna: But the shooting itself didn't take that long. In fact, the music video for "Kimiiro Signal" was more difficult. That time, I danced a line dance for four people by myself.

───The music video for "Kimiiro Signal" is also included in the limited first edition of "Candy Lips," and it was shot separately in four different costumes, with the four Haruna-san line dancing.

Haruna: I have been working hard on my dance lessons lately, so I thought it would be nice to show you the results of those lessons.
