Yojiro Arai, 26, formerly of Ghibli and now of Coloride, makes his theatrical directorial debut! Original animated film "Typhoon Norda" opens in theaters on June 5.

The original animated film "Typhoon Norda" has been announced. The screening will be limited to three weeks starting June 5.

This is the latest original animated film by Studio Colorido (established in 2011), a production company that brings together young creators mainly in their 20s, including Yuyasu Ishida, who won numerous awards including the Excellence Award at the 14th Japan Media Arts Festival for his short animation "Fumiko's Confession". This is their first new film in two years, since their previous work, the much-talked-about "Ao Shigure in the Sunshine State". The film is a story of friendship between boys set in a junior high school on the day before a cultural festival on a remote island. The somewhat nostalgic world is vividly depicted with dynamic animation.

The director is Yojiro Arai, who worked with Mr. Ishida on "Aoshigure of Sunlight" as character designer and animation director. The 26-year-old, who worked as an animator at Studio Ghibli on such films as "The Borrower Arrietty," "From Up on Poppy Hill," and "The Wind Rises," will make his debut as a theatrical film director. Character design and animation director is Yuyasu Ishida, and music is by Masashi Hamauzu. Distributor is Toho Film Division.
