Live-action Patlabor, Patlabor Squadron including a life-size Ingram appears in Shinjuku! Collaboration with the Metropolitan Police Department to promote traffic safety
THE NEXT GENERATION PATLABOR" is a live-action version of the classic anime "Mobile Police Patlabor," and a police collaboration traffic safety PR event was held in Shinjuku.
The film, which has attracted attention for its total production cost of 2.2 billion yen, including the 8-meter-long life-size Type 98 Ingram and the fully realized Section 2 building with a Laberdog, will start with the first chapter (Episodes 0-1) on April 5, 2014, followed by the final chapter, Chapter 7 (Episode 12, "The Great Legacy"), on January 10, 2015. The Great Legacy") was screened. Then, on May 1, 2015, the feature-length theatrical version "THE NEXT GENERATION PATLABOR: Capital Decisive Battle" will be released.
As previously reported, a full-scale Ingram was decked out in the middle of Shinjuku (between Yasukuni Dori and Shinjuku Dori, Shinjuku Moa 4th Avenue) on April 21. In addition to the director, Mr. Oshii, and the cast (Toshio Kakei, Erina Mano, Rina Ota, and Kanna Mori) dressed in costumes from the movie, the "Queen Stars," a female motorcycle squad and mascot Peepo-kun also came to support the event in collaboration with the real Metropolitan Police Department, making the Patlabor Company itself appear in Shinjuku. The event was a great success, with people stopping one after another to watch the movie and promote traffic safety. The following is a report on the event.
(First, a traffic PR event was held by the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department.)
Hello everyone. Congratulations on the completion of "THE NEXT GENERATION PATLABOR: Capital Crisis," which will be screened on May 1. We are very much looking forward to its release. Today, we would like to take this opportunity of the completion announcement event to talk about what you should pay attention to in order to avoid traffic accidents and various crimes.
~Traffic safety PR~.
Speaking of Patlabor, it belongs to the Metropolitan Police Department's Special Vehicle Division 2 and protects us from various crimes on a daily basis, right?
MC: Now then, we would like to conduct a deck-up event. First of all, please greet the audience.
Kakei: Good evening everyone. I am Toshio Kakei. I am very happy to be here today in Shinjuku, where I often go for a drink, very close to Kinokuniya Hall, a sacred place for theater. A decked-up event is a good omen. I hope you will all welcome Mr. Reaver with a sacred heart when he rises. Thank you very much.
Manoj: Thank you for gathering here today on such short notice. I am very happy to finally be here in Shinjuku after having traveled all over the country and even to Kyushu. Please look forward to seeing the deck up. I look forward to seeing you all here in Shinjuku.
Ota: Hello everyone. My name is Rina Ota. This is my first Deck Up event in a long time, and since the film is now completed, I am taking the stage today with a lot of mixed feelings. Please stay with me until the end, everyone.
Mori: Thank you very much for joining us today. I'm standing here because I've always been called up from this state (after Ingram was transported). I was wondering how you always carry it.
Ota: It looks like they are taking the arms.
Mori: I see (laughs). Please enjoy today.
Oshii: Hi, I am Oshii, the director. Deck up I think it is almost at the end of its useful life, and I think today may be the last time to deck up. I wonder how they have lasted this long. I feel great today, too, because I was able to deck up in Shinjuku, where I usually walk. The movie will be released on May 1. Please give my best regards.
MC: First of all, I would like to ask you, Mr. Kakei, how do you feel standing on this platform?
Kakei: (Loudly) Well, I am filled with emotion. I always wandered around this area when I was young, so you can imagine how happy I am to be able to speak loudly with a microphone from a high place here! Ladies and gentlemen!
~LOL!
Thank you so much Patlabor! Thank you Tohoku Shinsha! Thank you for Memories Yokocho! Thank you Tengu Bar, thank you ABC Mart! Thank you so much, everyone.
MC: Next, I would like to ask Mr. Mano. How do you feel about joining the members of the Metropolitan Police Department on stage for the first time in Patlabor today?
Mano:Whenever the series was released, I always greeted the audience at Shinjuku Piccadilly, and I really wanted everyone to see the decked-up version as well. The other day, it went to Tohoku and came back soon after, and the maintenance staff did the maintenance right away and brought it here today, so I really appreciate the hard work of the maintenance team. You can't experience the world of Patlabor unless you go to the theater, but as for Ingram, he has been to many places, and I am very happy to have been able to meet everyone. Ingram is fine, so I think you can rest assured that you will be able to see him. I think he will stand up again today in a cool way.
MC: This is a collaboration with the Metropolitan Police Department, right?
Mano: I carry the Metropolitan Police Department on my shoulders, and I am grateful for the cooperation of many people who have made this event possible today.
MC : Let me ask Mr. Ota. The character of Kasha, played by Mr. Ota, has performed many full-fledged action scenes in the series. Can we expect more action scenes from Kasha in the feature film version?
Ota: You can count on it. We shot a lot of action scenes.I think Kasha fans can expect a lot of action scenes, so please look forward to them.
MC: I would like to ask Mr. Mori. Please tell us what you were conscious of when you were playing the role of Haibara and what direction you received from Director Oshii.
Mori: There is not much I can say about Haibara at the moment, but the director told me to play the role with my eyes since it is not a role with many lines.
MC: I would like to ask Director Oshii. What did you do to create a realistic world?
Oshii: We made it realistic. Grey Ghost is an invisible helicopter, but I think it was good that we actually made it, not CG, when we shot it. This was damaged and could not be carried like Ingram. It was considerably damaged. Unfortunately, it is now sleeping in a warehouse.
MC: How did you feel when you rode it?
Mori: I was surprised when I rode in it for the first time. The inside is surprisingly decent, but it was cramped during filming because of the small space inside. It was tough.
MC: It is very glamorous to have Ms. Kakei and three beautiful women on the stage today. I heard that "women's battle" is one of the themes of the feature-length film version. Were you particular about this when directing the film?
Oshii: It is a story of a battle between five women, including those who are not here. The captain is at the mercy of five women. It is easy to depict cool women in the current era, but it is difficult to depict cool men. You can look at it as an action movie if you like, but anyway, it is a story about five women.
MC: It's time for the main event of the day, the deck-up of the life-size Ingram. Is everyone ready? I would like to ask Mr. Kakei to give the order to go into action for this deck-up.
Mr. Kakei: Let's start the deck-up of Patlabor!
A life-size Ingram, about 8 meters long, is decked up!
(cheers)
Kakei: Congratulations!
(applause)
MC: Deck-up is now complete! Godzilla in Kabukicho and Patlabor in Moa 4th Avenue, it's turning out to be quite an interesting town. We will now move on to the photo session for the media.
Since we are collaborating with the Metropolitan Police Department this time, we would like to invite motorcycle policemen and Pipo-kun to join us for the photo session. Please join us, motorcycle policemen and Pi-Po-kun.
-Photo Session
MC: Last but not least, Mr. Kakei would like to say a few words.
Mr. Kakei: The rain stopped perfectly and it was wonderful. Thank you very much for your kind attention today. I would also like to thank the media for their hard work. I would also like to thank the members of the Metropolitan Police Department, without whose cooperation today's project would not have been possible. I am truly grateful to all of you. From now on, I will no longer think anything of it when I see a motorcycle policeman at the end of the road in a rather obscure place!
~Laughter~!
I will gladly follow you all! I look forward to your continued support! Safety first! Patlabor Capital Battle will open in theaters nationwide on May 1. Please join us and experience the real thing on the screen. Thank you very much. Thank you very much!
