Chichibu Denki" closed on May 20! Long-established electronics store, also the originator of "Oden Can," continues mail-order business.

Chichibu Denki, a long-established electronics store on a back street, is closing its doors on May 20.

According to Akiba Guide Blog, "The store will cease over-the-counter sales on May 20 this month, and will move to Setagaya as a sales office to concentrate on mail order sales from now on.

Chichibu Denki was founded before World War II and moved to Akihabara in 1950, and is known not only as a specialty store dealing with peripherals/repair parts for Toshiba PCs such as Libretto and DynaBook, but also as the originator who started selling "Oden can" which became famous as a specialty of Akiba.

Incidentally, the store was relocated in March 2009 (from the first floor to the third floor of the building), but a vending machine for canned oden is still located at the entrance of the building.
