The latest in the Moomin series, "Moomin the Movie: A Pleasant Vacation in the Southern Ocean," BD/DVD to be released on August 5!

The Blu-ray/DVD of "Moomin the Movie: A Pleasant Vacation at the Southern Ocean," which was released in theaters this past February, will be released on August 5, 2015 (Wednesday).



Moomin the Movie: A Pleasant Vacation on the Southern Ocean" is the latest installment in the Moomin series, which has many fans in Japan. It is a feature-length animated film produced in Finland to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of the author, Tove Jansson. The film depicts their great adventure as they escape the Moomin Valley for the first time and head for a resort, the battle between Moomin and his love rival, and the crisis of the family's breakup due to their addiction to the luxurious lifestyle of the aristocracy.


The film was released in Japan on February 13, attracting many Moomin fans to movie theaters. Reviews on "AniPota" said that the film was different from "The Delightful Moomin Family," which was broadcast on TV in 1990, with comments such as "the touch is close to the original (novel)" and "the worldview is quite surreal," but it was still highly rated as "a must-see film for fans. The voice cast is the same as in "The Delightful Moomin Family," with Minami Takayama as Moomin, Akio Otsuka as Moomin Papa, Ikuko Tani as Moomin Mama, Mika Kanai as Florent, Takehito Koyasu as Snufkin, Rei Sakuma as Mii, Yuko Kobayashi as Mimura, and guest voice actors such as The guest voice actors are Masakazu Mimura, Kazuki Ohtake, and Kaela Kimura of "Samarazu" fame.


There will be two types of packages: a standard edition Blu-ray (3,800 yen + tax)/DVD (2,800 yen + tax) and a limited first-run luxury edition DVD (5,800 yen + tax) with special features. The luxury edition DVD will include an original tote bag and pouch. The luxury edition DVD will also include the trailer and TV spot collection, which are also included in the standard edition, as well as the making of the film, an interview with the staff in Finland, an interview with the staff in Japan, and a stage greeting at the premiere screening (by director Xavier Picardo and wanderers).
