The cast/director of "Shinkage no Kyojin," the anime version and the live-action film version, talk to each other! Haruma Miura: "I watched the TV anime version many times."
A dialogue with the cast and director of the live-action film version of the animated movie "The Second Part of the Movie: Wings of Freedom," which will be released in theaters on June 27, has been announced.
The TV series, which aired from April to September 2013, was directed by Tetsuro Araki, whose works include "DEATH NOTE," and Yasuko Kobayashi, whose works include "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Yasuko Kobayashi of "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure" was in charge of the series composition. Before the broadcast, many were concerned about the intense action scenes, but when they opened the door to the series, they found it to be a masterpiece that even fans of the original work were excited to see. Even now that the series has finished airing, it continues to be a topic of conversation and has become as popular as the original manga, which has sold a total of more than 40 million copies. The long-awaited "movie version," a live-action movie and an anime movie, are currently being made simultaneously, and the second TV anime season will start within 2016.
The "The Movie: The Second Part of the Giants of the Marching Attack - Wings of Freedom" is a 5.1ch remastered compilation of episodes 14-25 of the TV series, and is paired with the live-action film "The Giants of the Marching Attack: ATTACK ON TITAN" (opening August 1 and September 19, in consecutive days). The dialogue between the cast/director, including Hiroki Kaji (Eren in the theatrical anime) and Haruma Miura (Eren in the live-action film version) and Yui Ishikawa (Mikasa in the theatrical anime) and Kiko Mizuhara (Mikasa in the live-action film version), will appear sequentially in 18 Kodansha magazines* that will go on sale from June 23. Below is a portion of the interview.
--Miura-san, you have seen all the episodes of the TV anime as well as the original work, haven't you?
Miura: I watched the TV anime version many times as a reference for my acting. At first I thought, "I only watched the scenes for reference ......," but it was so interesting that I kept watching.
Kaji: I am very happy to hear that from you as a performer! I also had the chance to see the live-action movie version, and the sight of the approaching Titans gave me an eerie feeling that only a live-action movie can give. Wasn't the filming quite difficult?
Miura: The hardest part was the dust. When we were shooting, we used a huge fan-like machine to blow small pieces of styrofoam and sand to create the dust, but it would often hit me in the face.
--Did you also have a hard time during the recording of the animated feature film?
Kaji: What I had a hard time with during the recording of the TV series was taking care of my throat. The recording of a TV animation usually takes about 3 to 5 hours per episode, and Eren has a lot of shouting lines, which puts a lot of strain on his vocal cords, so I realized how important it is to maintain his throat.
Miura Mr. Kaji, why did you decide to pursue a career as a voice actor?
Kaji When I was in elementary school, I liked to "work hard for my future dream," and my dream would change every three days (laughs). Later, I started aiming for the profession of voice actor when I learned the saying, "If you work hard, everything you do will become your own strength.
Miura: It's wonderful that "everything you work hard for will become your power.
--What was your impression of the theater animation and the live-action film version?
Ishikawa: Although the names of the characters, such as Mikasa and Eren, are the same as in the original, the story is unique to the live-action film version. There were scenes from the TV animation that were also included in the film, so I thought that even those who knew the original story and the TV animation would enjoy it anew.
Mizuhara Thank you (smiles). When I saw the TV animation before the shooting, I was very anxious about "How are we going to visualize this? I was very anxious (laughs).
--I heard that during the filming of the live-action movie version, you, as Mikasa, gave a shout-out to Mizuhara-san.
Mizuhara I saw it!
Ishikawa: You saw it? A person I worked with in another film was a friend of Satomi Ishihara, who plays Hanji in the live-action film. Since she is playing Hanji in the live-action film, I asked her to give a message to Ms. Mizuhara, who plays Mikasa. ......
--What was your impression of Mikasa in the animated film?
Mizuhara Mikasa is not a talkative character, so a lot of things are expressed in just a few words, and I realized how difficult it was for me to play the role.
Ishikawa It is true that Mikasa doesn't have many emotional ups and downs, but she expresses a lot of feelings.
Mizuhara Mikasa in the live-action movie has different things in her mind. But I wanted to convey the mysterious atmosphere of the original work as it is, so I thought a lot about how to link the two.
(I thought about how we could link the two.)
