Fujio Akatsuka's legendary gag anime returns! Osomatsu-san" will be adapted into a TV anime this fall!

Osomatsu-san," the future of Fujio Akatsuka's classic gag anime "Osomatsu-kun," will be adapted into a TV anime this fall.

This original anime work is being produced to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the late Fujio Akatsuka's birth in 2015. The legendary gag manga by Fujio Akatsuka, the "King of Gag Manga," was first published in Weekly Shōnen Sunday in 1962 and became an explosive hit, selling more than 10 million copies in total.

The first "Osomatsu-kun" was broadcasted in 1966 (black-and-white animation), and the second in 1988. The teaser movie that has been released this time depicts a future world in which the six "Osomatsu-kun" children have grown up. In the teaser visual released this time, we can catch a glimpse of the six grown-up children all together on the balcony.

In addition to the six main characters, "Osomatsu-kun" also features many other unique characters such as Totoko, a girl they admire, Chibita, who is undaunted no matter what, Iyami, whose gag of shouting "shay" has become a national buzzword, Dekapan, with his impressive vertical striped pants, Dayon, whose habit of speaking has become his name, and so on. The film is characterized by the appearance of many unique characters, including Iyami, who is known as "Shay," and Decapang, who has an impressive pair of vertically striped underpants.

Along with the announcement of this film, the staff was also announced. The six children who have grown up will be portrayed by Yoichi Fujita, director of "Gintama" and other films. The character design is by Naoyuki Asano, who worked as the chief animation director on "Doraemon the Movie," and other talented staff members will participate. Animation production is by studio Piero. The cast is still undecided, but Takahiro Sakurai, who is known for his comedic performances, has been confirmed as the main character, Osomatsu.

Below are comments from all six members of the Matsuno family.

Osomatsu
I think if I do this well, even Bakura will be popular with the boys. Let's give it a try!

Karamatsu
Karamatsu: "We'll just have to go all out here. My performance will be the key..."

Choromatsu
What are you doing? We are unemployed! It's too much work!

Ippomatsu.
"It's not going to sell. What are all these grown-ups doing together? Are you stupid?

Fourteen pine trees.
I'm not a fan of this! We are back from the Showa era!

Todomatsu
I'll do my best, too.

Akatsuka's words of wisdom
