Animated TV version of "Parasite" to be broadcast on the nation's largest established animation channel from Oct! CartoonNetwork Saturday night "Toonami" slot

The TV anime "Parasite: Sei's Ratio" will be broadcast on Cartoon Network.

Parasite: Sei's Ratio" is an anime work based on the popular science fiction manga "Kiseiju" (parasite), which has sold more than 15 million copies. It depicts the bizarre fate of a high school student and a parasitic creature that lives in his right hand, which is a parasite that lives in the brain of a human being and takes control of his entire body, preying on other humans. The series is directed by Kenichi Shimizu, who worked as action animation director on "Hajime no Ippo New Challenger" and director on "AVENGERS CONFIDENTIAL BLACKWIDOW & PUNISHER," and the series is composed by Shoji Yonemura, who is known for writing scripts for the Pokemon series and Pretty Cure series. Character design is by Sadafumi Hiramatsu, who worked on "Boyfriend and Girlfriend" and "Abenobashi Magical Shopping Arcade," and production is by Madhouse.

The show will be broadcast on Cartoon Network, the largest and oldest animation channel in the United States. It will be broadcast from October as "PARASYTE - THE MAXIM-. This work was distributed in the U.S., Europe, the Middle East, and Africa by Crunchyroll, an online distribution company, immediately after its broadcast in Japan, and was so popular that it ranked in the top five in terms of popularity. In Asia, Animax broadcast it on the same day in Taiwan and Southeast Asia, and in South Korea, Anibox and others broadcast it the next day. Incidentally, due to the influence of the anime and movie adaptations, the total number of copies of the original comics sold increased by 4 million copies after reaching 11 million copies in August 2014.

Toshio Nakatani (producer) commented
To begin with, it was a unique challenge to make the "first" film adaptation of a 25-year-old work. I would venture to say that the underlying concept of this work is a wake-up call to all people living today. We would be more than happy if we could convey a certain passion of Japanese animation creators to you.
CartoonNetwork (CN) has aired many popular Japanese anime programs in the past, but in 2012, it launched "Toonami," a Saturday night slot that airs Japanese anime programming. Currently, Toonami is almost the only major U.S. broadcast channel that airs Japanese anime. Although there are many program titles aired on Toonami, it is extremely difficult to find new Japanese anime on major U.S. broadcasters, with only one or two new titles a season. This "Parasite" will be one of those rare productions. In the past, NTV has broadcasted "DEATH NOTE" and "Tenchi Muyo! GXP. The factors that led to the decision to air the series this time include the success of the aforementioned simulcast on the same day as the Japanese broadcast, and the fact that an English-language manga book has been published in the United States, which is thought to be a reflection of the great popularity of Parasite in the local market. While online distribution has so far focused on core fans, the TV broadcast will bring the work to a mass audience, which is expected to further expand the reach of the series and spark a huge movement.
