The first group of B-class gourmet food stalls under the elevated railway tracks in Akiba, with the first menu (14 items in total) all under 500 yen! B-1 Grand Prix Shokudo AKI-OKA CARAVANE

B-1 Grand Prix Shokudo AKI-OKA CARAVANE" will be opened as the third project of JR East Urban Development's elevated railway development between Akihabara and Okachimachi stations. It is the official restaurant of the "B-1 Grand Prix," a B-class gourmet (local gourmet) showcase event held throughout Japan, and the first permanent restaurant in Tokyo. When it first opened, it sold 14 menu items supervised by the "B-1 Grand Prix" award-winning organizations, using 9 trailers + 1 kitchen car + center kitchen. Thereafter, the menu will not be fixed, but will feature local gourmet foods from about 70 regions.

The first menu items are all priced at 300-500 yen, soft drinks at 200 yen, various sours and highballs at 300 yen, local highballs at 400 yen, and draft beer at 400-500 yen. note that Suica can be used & recharged, and when using cash, you must wait in the meal ticket line before the food line (*). Suica users do not need a meal ticket). Open from 11:00 to 22:00. No holidays. No smoking. Seating capacity is 150 in total, but admission may be limited depending on how crowded it gets.

After tasting the dishes, the overall impression is that many of the dishes have a strong, easily recognizable flavor. The volume of the food was commensurate with the price or better, and I felt that this facility is packed with elements that are likely to be popular with Akibakko (children). Drinks are also inexpensive, and there is a restroom, so it could be used as a place to take a break or have a quick drink. The long opening hours and no breaks are also an advantage, and we can expect demand from store clerks and office workers who often take meal breaks at odd hours. All in all, while this will be a threat to nearby restaurants, it will be an attractive dining spot for people using Akihabara, including tourists. Expectations are high for the future.
