Five Tokyo-based commercial broadcasters launched TVer, a free TV program distribution service, in October! Free period is about 1 week until the next week.

Five Tokyo-based commercial broadcasters announced that they will jointly launch TVer, a catch-up service that distributes TV programs as free, ad-supported videos, in October 2015.

This is an official free video delivery service targeting users who could not watch TV programs in real time due to "missing" programs. This is the first official TV portal collaboration among commercial key broadcasters, and will allow free viewing of programs from NTV, TV Asahi, TBS, TV Tokyo, and Fuji Television (10 programs/week from each company) on PCs, smartphones, tablets, and other devices. The free period is approximately one week from the end of the broadcast until the next broadcast. Currently, dramas and variety programs are available, but since the service aims to eradicate illegal video distribution, anime may eventually become available as well.

Presentcast Inc. operates the service, and its teaser site (http://tver.jp/) was opened to the public on July 16. Incidentally, the name of the service comes from the idea that "all users will be freed from the constraints of place and time, and will be able to enjoy TV programs more freely and in a more personalized way. The name was chosen in the hope that more and more people (=TVers) will watch TV in this new style and enjoy TV more than ever before.
