Knights of Sidonia" released commemorative movies for landing on Netflix in Japan! Part 1 "Diagonal Acceleration" / Part 2 "Long Way Out" / Part 3 "Auxiliary Brain Access
A movie commemorating the arrival of Netflix in Japan has been released from the TV anime "Knights of Sidonia.
Knights of Cydonia" is an anime work based on the science fiction manga by Tsutomu Nibei, who is known worldwide for his works such as "BLAME! It depicts a battle between the survivors of human beings traveling through space and Gauna, an interactive alien creature that destroys the solar system. The animation was produced by Polygon Pictures, and after a film version that reconstructed all 12 episodes of the TV series and added new cuts and sound effects, the second TV anime season, "Knights of Sidonia: The Battle of the Ninth Planet," was broadcast from April 2015.
This time, a special video was released to commemorate the launch of the service in Japan on September 2 by Netflix, the world's largest Internet video distribution network. Knights of Sidonia" approached Netflix even before its broadcast in Japan, and became the first Japanese anime to be distributed overseas as a Netflix exclusive title. By not only broadcasting/distributing the work on TV in Japan, but also delivering the work to ardent anime fans in various countries and securing profits, the company was able to produce a high quality production that sets it apart from ordinary anime.
The cast and staff have gathered again for the special videos, with almost all the lines recorded with new postrecording. The first part is the "Diagonal Acceleration Arc. The members of the Sidonia ship "diagonally accelerate" toward Netflix, which suddenly appears in outer space, and the Netflix original titles appear one after another. According to Naohiro Yoshihei, deputy director of the second season, "We tried to parody our own work in a serious way (laughs)," and the video is full of playful elements that will make fans smile. In addition, a comment from Ryota Aisaka, who plays the role of Chodo Tanikaze, was also released.
The first video will be available on the official Netflix Youtube channel (www.youtube.com/c/NetflixJP) and other sites from August 4. The second part, "Nagamichi Departure Arc" and the third part, "Auxiliary Brain Access Arc" will be distributed at a later date.
Ryota Osaka (playing the role of Chomichi Tanikaze) comment
This time, the flow of the work was quite comedic, which was a complete change from the main story, and I wondered how I could play the role of Chomichi. In the end, I thought it would be more interesting if I played it seriously rather than aiming for something strange, so I played the role with the tension of the main story. After watching the film, I felt that I had done the right thing. I hope you enjoy the short film and watch the full-length version on Netflix.
