The School Idol Movie," an animated film released on June 13, 2012, has surpassed the 2.2 billion yen mark at the box office.

Love Live! is an anime work that depicts nine girls' idol activities to save their alma mater "Otonokizaka Gakuin" from the danger of being closed down. Otonokizaka Gakuin is a "traditional school located between Akihabara, Kanda, and Jimbocho," and the background of the story is based on real places such as Kanda Myojin, UDX, Shoheibashi, and Takemura, a sweet shop. In April 2014, the second TV season was broadcast, and the enthusiastic fans, called "love-lovers," became a hot topic of conversation in various parts of the country. The School Idol Movie," which was released on June 13 as a completely new movie, depicts how the girls, who had decided to end their activities following the graduation of their third year, take on the challenge of a new live performance.

The theatrical version, which was released in 121 theaters nationwide, attracted much attention as it ranked first in the weekend box office rankings for three consecutive weeks in terms of attendance, and as of August 3, it had grossed over 2.2 billion yen (2,211,552,340 yen) at the box office.
