Gorgeous creators gathered! Yun*chi's new album "Pixie Dust*", born from a collection of sparkling stars!
Yun*chi, a female singer who has sung theme songs for anime such as "Log Horizon" and "wooser no sonohiryu yumehenhenhen", has released her second album "Pixie Dust*". The album was produced by a number of unique creators, including ☆Taku Takahashi (m-flo), Haruko Momoi, Katsutoshi Kitagawa (ROUND TABLE), and Chara, and it is a luxurious album that brings out the charm of Yun*chi's transparent vocals!
This album is a "miracle made of many stars"!
─ ─ You sent a message to music producer U-SKE (Yusuke Asada) from SNS, which was the trigger for you to start working with Yusuke on the production. You paved the way for yourself, didn't you?
Yun*chi When you say it like that, it makes me sound like a motivated girl, but when I wanted to do something, I just ran with it. Looking back on it now, I think I was too much of a scaredy-cat. (laugh). (Laughs.) Even now, I still have that kind of rashness in me.
─ Have you always admired U-SKE?
Yun*chi When I was a child, I had a lot of CDs at home, and I liked to listen to the ones that caught my attention. One of them was Chara's CD, and U-SKE was the one who made it. So when I grew up and found their account on SNS, I was so happy that I fearlessly sent them the sound files I had made and the URL of my blog. I received a response, and after a few exchanges, U-SKE began to take care of me.
─ ─ So you had already started your musical activities when you sent the message to U-SKE?
Yun*chi I was making and singing original songs with my friends.
───What did you do with U-SKE?
Yun*chi I was helping with the production and learning the know-how. If someone said to me, "Yun*chi, can you do a temporary song for me? I would go to the studio and sing under U-SKE's direction. That is how I learned how to work in the recording studio. For me, U-SKE is like a mentor. He is a gentle and kind person, and I think I was lucky to have had a good encounter with him right from the start.
──Mr. U-SKE also participated in the album "Pixie Dust*" by producing and writing lyrics for several songs. And you also produced one song, didn't you, Chara?
Yun*chi Yes. This time, we had a lot of people participate, from kind seniors to creators of the same age who are doing exciting things. I am very grateful to be able to do music while being surrounded by people who guide me. There are many people close to me who I think it would be wonderful if I could mix my voice with the music they create.
─ ─ "Pixie Dust*" is Yun*chi's second full-length album. What kind of work did you want it to be?
Yun*chi The asterisk (*) in the artist name and all the song titles means a small star. I named my first album "Asterisk*" with the thought, "I am still a small star, but I am here shining. The name "Pixie Dust*" refers to the sparkling light that is created after fairies fly, and was named after the image of the miracle that is created when many stars come together to form a trail. I wanted to bring together all the sparkling creators, make me shine, and deliver it to each and every one of my listeners.
─ So the album was produced while placing importance on the connections between people. On the other hand, what do you think is the charm of Yun*chi for the creators?
Yun*chi I am often told that my voice is interesting. Some years ago, I was asked to give Yun*chi a catchphrase in a TV program, and the catchphrase I received was "raw Vocaloid. Even songs that had not been auto-tuned and processed sounded like Vocaloids, and their voices were interesting.
─ ─ "Raw Vocaloids! I think I know what you mean.
Yun*chi I used to have a complex. My voice didn't change much as I grew older. But many people told me that my voice blends easily with the sound when I sing. I was very happy when someone said, "Once you hear it, you will immediately recognize Yun*chi's voice. I realized that music is a place where I can express my most beautiful self.
We talked about girl talk as we wrote the lyrics.
The first song on the "Pixie Dust*" album is "Lucky Girl*," which is also the latest single. It is the theme song for the anime "wooser's Sono Hi Riri Yumehen Hen.
Yun*chi m-flo's ☆Taku Takahashi produced the song. It was a mature song, so I wanted to sing it in a way that would make people feel the sexiness of an adult woman.
─ I heard that the lyrics are characterized by a little bit of venom?
Yun*chi That's right. We created the story of the lyrics while having girl talk with the lyricist, Yuki Kawamura, and we both said, "There are men like this, aren't there?
Yun*chi Yes, that's right.
Yun*chi Yes, yes. They don't look at girls that much. In the second verse, there are a lot of bad things said about him, like how he never says "sorry" when he's late for a meeting, or how he only eats meat without noticing when I share my salad with him (laughs). (Laughs).
(laugh) ─ So he is the type of boy who doesn't care (laugh).
Yun*chi He's not my ideal type at all, but I'm fascinated by him. Girl talk is often about complaining and bad-mouthing men, but the reason why we are discussing such things is that we are discussing what we want the guy we like to do with us. In the end, it's a tongue-in-cheek way to get along with him. So, if we like each other in this song as well, "Lucky Girl, Lucky Boy. Yuki and I discussed that we wanted the song to end on a positive note, not just a complaint.
─ The second song, "Fairy*," was produced by Haruko Momoi. It is a vigorous and energetic pop song.
Yun*chi I often go to anime live concerts, and I was so envious of how the audience was getting excited, shouting loudly and doing the choreography together. I wanted a song that I could enjoy with my fans like that, so I asked Haruko Momoi to do it. I said, "I want to make a song that everyone can jump up and down to! She said, "Well, let's make it together. I think I looked like a fairy from your point of view (laughs), so you gave me the title "Fairy*".
─ The third song, "Doki Doki*," is another energetic song. This one was produced by Katsutoshi Kitagawa of ROUND TABLE.
Yun*chi When I used to go to a club event where anime songs were played, "Let Me Be With You" from "Chobits" was playing, and I fell in love with ROUND TABLE. Recently, I heard Ms. Kitagawa's songs on Kana Hanazawa's CDs and at her live performances, and they were really wonderful. I want to sing it too, I want to be ROUND TABLE too!" and asked him to provide the music.
The lyrics are by Danni Miyagawa, and it's a very cute love song.
Yun*chi If it were me, I couldn't have written such a pure beginning of love (laughs). The word "Doki-Doki" in the chorus is catchy, and the lyrics are very cute throughout. I tried to sing in a cute and gentle way to match the color of the song.
─ The vocals really change depending on the song, and the vocals in the sixth song, "Jelly*," were also very distinctive.
Yun*chi Chara produced this song. I sang it with a whisper voice under her direction. When she heard me sing, she was amused and said, "You sing one word, but it sounds like many different sounds. For example, "sin" sounded like "to me," and they were excited to participate in the production, saying that they could feel various stories from a single lyric.
