Kumamiko" is a manga series written by Masume Yoshimoto and serialized in Monthly Comic Flapper. Set in a village deep in the mountains of the Tohoku region, the story revolves around a junior high school student who serves as a shrine maiden at a shrine dedicated to bears and her guardian (person?), a bear named Natsu, who lives in the countryside. The anime version is based on the manga by Kinema Citrus.

The animated version is produced by Kinema Citrus and EMT Squared. Directed by Kiyoshi Matsuda, script by Pierre Sugiura and Masao Iketani, character design and chief animation director is Hiroyuki Saita. The cast includes Natsumi Hioka as Machi Ameshuku, a shrine maiden at Kumade Shrine who has a countryside complex from years of living in the village, and Hiroki Yasumoto as Natsu Kumai, a brown bear who is familiar with the latest appliances and can communicate with humans.

Deep in the mountains of the Tohoku region, a junior high school student named Machi serves as a shrine maiden at a shrine dedicated to bears. One day, Mamachi is told by her guardian (person?) Natsu, a bear, that she is a "bear" and that she should "go to the shrine". One day, Mamachi asks her guardian (person?), Natsu the bear, if she can go to school in the city. Natsu, who is a worrier, gives Mamachi, who is motivated but not persistent and naive, all kinds of trials and tribulations necessary for her to survive in the city.
