Trial Performance of Musical "Sword Dance", Part 1 is the story of Minamoto no Yoshitsune and Ima no Ken, Part 2 is a live performance like an idol! Report on the rehearsal performance

The sword training simulation game "Touken Ranbu" is a sword fighting game in which players take on the role of the master of "sword men", famous swordsmen from history that have been transformed into warrior forms, and organize a "Shirahada-tai" to defeat the enemy. The long-awaited musical adaptation of this work, which has exploded in popularity among women for its unique and appealing male characters and relationships based on historical facts, will be performed in May 2016! Prior to the main performance in May 2016, I watched the "Musical 'Sword Dance' Trial Performance" stage rehearsal, which is currently running from October 30 to November 8, 2015.

The first part is a musical tailored to a story, in which swordsmen fight, sing, and dance. The game has nearly 50 swordsmiths, but this time, Mikazuki Munechika (Mario Kuroba), one of the five swords under heaven made in the Heian period, Kogumaru (Ryo Kitazono), made by the same swordsmith, Ishikirimaru (Tsubasa Sakiyama), whose sword is based on a treasure sword from the Ishikiri Tsurugi Shrine, Iwakiryu (Daichi Saeki), a long sword said to have been used by Musashibo Benkei, and Gendo no Benkei (Benkei), a sword said to have been used by the samurai of the Kamakura period, are all featured in the game. (Tsubasa Sakiyama), the naginata Iwakirimaru (Tsubasa Saeki), which is based on a treasured sword from the Ishikiri Tsurugi Shrine, the sword used by Benkei Musashibo, the sword used by Yoshitsune Minamoto (Shunya Ohira), the sword used by the Shinsengumi and the sword used by Soji Okita (Ryuji Sato). As expected when the key visual was announced, the characters are quite well reproduced and cool!

The stage opened with scenes of Minamoto no Yoshitsune, Musashibo Benkei, and Fujiwara no Yasuhira, followed by the long-awaited appearance of the sword fighters, who sang "Touken Ranbu" passionately, foretelling of battle. Once the audience is drawn into the world of the work, it is revealed that "historical revisionists" are in the dark at Azugashiyama in the 5th year of Bunji, and that a squad led by Kashu will be sent there. The mission of the team is to stop the plot to change the fate of Yoshitsune, whom everyone knows, and alter history, but the situation is complicated by the presence of Ima-ken, who is related to Yoshitsune, and Iwayu, who is related to Benkei.

The story, which centers on the "pros and cons of historical revision," is very easy to understand and dramatic, and can be enjoyed even by those who are not fans of the "sword dance" series. Each character had his or her own scene, and the relationships between the swordsmiths were also well depicted, making the musical a condensed version of the work's charms. The performance was full of surprises for the fans, such as the appearance of the swordsmiths in their private parts and the mention of names other than those of the characters in the show.

The second part of the show, which began amidst the excitement, was the live part, where the audience could enjoy the performances of the swordsmiths; the six of them performed breathtaking dance numbers, solo songs, and songs that changed daily, making the showtime as glittering as an idol's, and frankly, "not enough eyes" for the audience! The cast will even go down into the audience and come up close to you at ....... Penlights are available for use here, so you can cheer them on to your heart's content.
