Cast and character photos have been released from the live-action film version of "Chinyuuki," which will be released on February 27, 2016.

The film is based on the manga "Chinyuuki: Taro and His Wonderful Friends" by Man☆Gataro, which was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1990. This live-action adaptation of the legendary gag manga series, which has sold a total of approximately 4 million copies, stars Kenichi Matsuyama, who is known for his excellent performances as such quirky characters as L from "Death Note," John Krauser II from "Detroit Metal City" and Hiroshi from "Donegai Toad. Kana Kurashina plays Genjo, a monk who travels to Jersey with the main character, Taro Yamada. Dressed in a kesa (priest's robe) and wearing a shaved head, the film's highlights include the exchange of corny dialogue and action scenes involving the chanting of incantations. Junpei Mizobata plays Ryusho, an original character in the film who holds a grudge against Yamada Taro. Ryosei Tayama plays Yamada Taro's foster parent, Jiji. Takashi Sasano plays the grandmother, an indispensable character in Man☆Gataro's works. Wearing a wig and kimono, she and Grandpa engage in a comical high-tension dialogue, much like a married couple in a comic dialogue. The world's strongest martial artist, Taizo Nakamura, is played by Yoichi Onsui. He is a mere drunkard, but he also performs action scenes, such as drunken fist fights while drinking alcohol. Pierre Taki plays the role of Taro Yamada before his transformation. He is said to have applied special makeup to his entire body and gives a ferocious and powerful performance with a full monster feel.
