I met a "mysterious" new ani-song singer, Rin Akatsuki!

Rin Akatsuki is a "mysterious" new ani-song singer who debuted on March 2 with "Kesshin no Tsubasa", the ending theme song for the TV anime "Kindaichi Shonen no Jikenbo R (Returns)". Who is she? We went to talk to her in person!

My love for ani-songs made me decide to try my hand at the professional world!

Akatsuki, nice to meet you. My name is Rin Akatsuki.

─ ─ It's nice to meet you too. I was nervous about what kind of person you are, but I found you to be very bright and beautiful. According to your profile, you won the grand prize at a large-scale audition in 2014, which led to your debut?

Akatsuki: Yes. But when I passed the audition and was told about my debut, I didn't really feel it. I said something very nerdy like, "I'll try my best, but if it doesn't work out, I'll quit" (laughs).

─ ─ Thank you very much for your honest comment out of the blue (laughs). Did you always like anime songs?

Akatsuki: Of course. Not in real time, but when I was in elementary school, I watched "Card Captor Sakura" and was fascinated by its dreamy world. When I was in junior high school, I only hung out with friends who liked anime.

─ So you were totally absorbed in the world of anime.

Akatsuki: I was a Chuunibyouji. I thought that only people who liked anime would understand my loneliness. I would write poems that I am embarrassed to read back now.

─ ─ Ha-ha-ha-ha (laughs). Well, I think that is the path that everyone who has become complicated goes down.

Akatsuki I would like to have a more peaceful heart and be receptive enough to look back on those days, but I can't yet (laughs).

─ ─ So you went for an audition, and you were accepted, which led to your debut?

Akatsuki That's right. That is what I am afraid of now. I had been singing only for myself, and I wondered if I would be able to sing for many people. After my debut was decided, I began to think about what expression is and what I can do to connect with others through expression. Now I am happy to receive comments on my videos, and I have come to believe that there are many more enjoyable things to be had by opening up.

─ By the way, what did you sing at the audition?

Akatsuki: "God knows..." from "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. I love the songs written by Aki Hata.

─ What was your family's reaction to your debut as a singer?

Akatsuki: They supported me. My parents thought I might not be able to get a job, so they told me to do my best if there was a place for me to work.

Akatsuki: It was like you got a job (laughs).

Akatsuki That's right. I was also hesitant at first, but I knew that if I didn't try, I would definitely regret it. I had a love for ani-songs, so I decided to give the professional world a try.
