Spring Anime "The Lion Guard" Announces Cast!　Lion King sequel featuring Simba's second child, Cayon

The cast has been announced for the animated TV series "The Lion Guard: Shonosha de Nensetsu," which will start in April.

This is a new animated TV series that is a sequel to Disney's classic animated film "The Lion King," which was released in the US in June 1994 and grossed $987.4 million at the worldwide box office. The Lion King" was first broadcast on the Disney Channel in the U.S. on January 15, 2016 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the film's release. The main character is Qion, the second child of Simba, who inherited the throne of Pride Land from "The Lion King." The story begins when Qion inherits the leadership of the Lion Guard, the legendary guardians who protect the peace in Pride Land. The film depicts how Cayon overcomes various incidents that occur in the kingdom while bumping into and cooperating with his unique friends.

The cast has now been revealed. Simba, the king of Pride Land, will be played by Mitsuru Miyamoto, Timon, a good-natured meerkat, by Yuji Mitsuya, and Pumbaa, an overeater, by Hiroshi Hatanaka. Here are their comments. The broadcast will begin at 14:30 on April 16 on the Disney Channel.

It has been more than 20 years since I first voiced Simba, and during that time I got married and became a father of two children. I feel like I have grown up together with Simba. I am very happy to be able to play the same role forever. The highlight of the show is the process of the lion guards as they grow up and learn many things. I feel that there are many lessons to be learned in the casual dialogue. And then there is the singing. I will be singing too. Please look forward to it!

Yuji Mitsuya as Timon
Timon is my favorite role, so I am very happy to be able to play it again. The new "Circle of Life" will start just like the world of "The Lion King". Please look forward to seeing the "Lion Guard" in action. I look forward to seeing the "Lion Guard" in action, and Timon's performance as well!
