The ending theme of "Space Patrol Luluko" has a pleasant spacewalking feeling and the taste of pure first love.
The TV anime "Space Patrol Luluko" is directed by TRIGGER's Hiroyuki Imaishi. The mellow ending theme "Pipo Password," which plays after the crazy storyline, is a cute, fluffy love song. This song was co-written by TeddyLoid, who once worked with ☆Taku Takahashi on the music for "Panty & Stocking with Garter Belt," and Bonjour Suzuki, who sang the opening theme "Ano Mori de Waiteru" for "Yurikuma Arashi. The two, who are both well versed in French music, have created a classy song featuring the pure charm of "Luluko".
We met in person only after we had finished working on the song.
─ ─ TeddyLoid once worked with ☆Taku Takahashi on the soundtrack of "Panty & Stocking with Garter Belt" directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi. This is your second participation in Imaishi's work, isn't it?
Bonjour Suzuki: I also loved "Kill la Kill". The tempo is addictive, isn't it?
─ ─ "Space Patrol Luluko" is also a very "crazy" work. What kind of offer did the director give you for the ending theme?
───Did you two know each other before?
Bonjour Suzuki I have known TeddyLoid's music for a long time. I had seen "Pantyhose" and heard that he worked with various artists, and I thought he was an amazing person. So when I first met Teddy, I was very nervous.
─ Did you meet with him before the production?
Bonjour Suzuki: The first contact I received was a direct message on Twitter. When we accepted the offer, we immediately received the track (music).
TeddyLoid I wanted to bring out the floating feeling of the universe, so I started making the track at the same time I asked Bonjour to do it. This song was completed very quickly. It took about two weeks from the time I received the offer to finish all the work.
Bonjour Suzuki I was surprised at how fast it was (laughs).
(Laughs.) I decided on the title after thinking about Internet searches.
Bonjour Suzuki: So the communication between the two of you went very smoothly.
Bonjour Suzuki: Lyrics.
I gave him the image of the lyrics along with TeddyLoid's track. I gave him only a rough idea of what I wanted the song to sound like, like Luluko singing while floating through space, or a love story with Nova-kun, and left the rest up to Bonjour to develop freely.
Bonjour Suzuki: I was sent the script for the anime, so I read it many times to get inspiration. Luluko is just a cute girl, and I wanted to write about the pure image of first love and the feeling of not knowing if the love will work out or not, combined with the universe. I started by writing down the lyrics in bullet points, and Teddy checked them with me, and we worked on the song over several email exchanges.
I think the lyrics have a TeddyLoid-like feel to them. Director Imaishi and Mr. Wakabayashi (Hiromi Wakabayashi, Creative Director) also said that the lyrics fit the work.
Bonjour Suzuki: What did you pay particular attention to in the lyrics?
─ ─ I want the listener to take the time to savor and feel the lyrics. Once the lyrics and the track are finished, the next step is to record the vocals.
TeddyLoid The vocals were recorded at Bonjour's house by himself.
Bonjour Suzuki Teddy's track is really cool, so I tried to find a way to sing that would match the track. I thought about how I would sing it as if I were flying into space, or how the microphone would fit, etc. I recorded a demo take, and Teddy checked it before recording the actual song.
TeddyLoid Bonjour's demo was so perfect. It was good enough to be recorded as is.
Bonjour Suzuki: Did you record the vocals for the actual recording by yourself?
TeddyLoid I thought I could get better takes in a familiar environment, so I left the recording to her. I also layered the harmony on top of what she had done for me.
Bonjour Suzuki: I am very happy that you were able to create such a wonderful worldview.
TeddyLoid Bonjour not only has a great voice, but also has a wonderful way of recording and approaching the music. There were many places that made me realize that this is how I should sing.
Bonjour Suzuki: Teddy's mixing was wonderful. My voice changes a lot depending on the mix, but TeddyLoid, who also makes French electro music and has a lot of knowledge about various kinds of music, created a pleasant mix that made me feel enchanted while listening to my own voice. I was very happy with the mix, which made me feel enchanted while listening to my own voice.
TeddyLoid Bonjour's voice is rich in overtones, which makes it difficult to apply effects. It has originality, and that's what makes it so appealing.
Bonjour Suzuki I sing Japanese lyrics with a French pronunciation. Therefore, my voice has more overtones than a normal whisper voice, and depending on the mix, I sometimes lose my voice, but I thought Teddy had a great sense of mixing.
─ ─ How did you decide on the title "Pipo Password"?
TeddyLoid That's right (laughs). I suggested to Bonjour, "How about the word "password" in the lyrics? Bonjour said, "I want it to be a title that doesn't show up as other candidates when you search for it on the Internet. I thought, "I see.
Bonjour Suzuki: The word "PiPoPa☆" is also in the lyrics, so we decided to add it and call it "Pipo Password.
Bonjour Suzuki: I think it is a unique title with an interesting sound.
