A report from an advance screening of the TV anime "Battery," which will start in July, has arrived.



Battery" is an anime work based on a novel by Atsuko Asano.The original work, a bestseller with a total of 10 million copies in print, isa coming-of-age baseball drama depicting a year in the life of an arrogant pitcher overflowing with talent and confidence, and a catcher who is attracted to him. To mark the 20th anniversary of its publication, a TV anime adaptation has been decided for Fuji Television's "Noitamina" slot.The director and screenplay are by Tomomitsu Mochizuki of "Umi ga Kikoeru," the original character design is by Takako Shimura, a manga artist well known for "Hobo Son," and theanimation character design and chief animation director is by Eiko Kusama of "Hi-Q! Animation Character Design and Chief Animation Director is Eiko Kusama, Animation Character Design and Chief Animation Director is HIQ!


On June 26, an advance screening of the first two episodes was held, with a talk show featuring Koki Uchiyama playing Takumi Harada, Yu Hatanaka playing Go Nagakura, Yuichiro Umehara playing Kazuki Kainji, and Kaito Ishikawa playing Keita Higashitani, and a live performance by anderlust, who plays the opening/ending theme. The cast members were greeted with loud applause as the afterglow of the work lingered after the advanced screenings of the first and second episodes. First, we asked them about the characters they play. Mr. Uchiyama, who plays the role of Takumi Harada, a genius pitcher, said, "Takumi is a calm and collected character with a high sense of pride. On the other hand, when I read the original story, I found that Takumi is a complex character with many different sides, as he is full of emotions, jokes with each other, and gets passionate at times.
Hatanaka commented on Go Nagakura's fascination with the ball that Takumi throws, "Go is a positive, cheerful character who looks around him. I would like you to pay attention to Takumi and how he is involved with Takumi's ball. About Kazuki Kainonji, captain of the Nitta Higashi Junior High School baseball team, Mr. Umehara said, "He plays shortstop and is the fourth in the lineup. He is serious and quiet, but there are many scenes where he interacts with Gou and Takumi, so he is a fun character to play." Regarding Higashitani Keita, Gou's friend since childhood, Ishikawa said, "He has been close to Sawaguchi and Gou since he was little and cares about the relationship between Takumi and Gou. He is a mediator when there is a dispute.

Video comments were also shown from Yuuki Fujimaki, who plays Aonami Harada, Soma Saito, who plays Nobuhiro Yoshisada, Tomoki Ono, who plays Shugo Kadowaki, and Ryohei Kimura, who plays Shunji Mizugaki. They introduced the characters they play, and their messages showed how well they get along with each other at the recording studio.

The surprise guests of the day were two members of anderlust, who sang the opening theme "Someday Myself" and the ending theme "When Spring Comes Tomorrow". We are honored that our songs will be part of the battery. I wrote the song "Someday Myself" with the thought that the feeling of working hard, no matter the process or the result, will one day become an unshakable feeling that will push me and my team forward. The song is a cover of Takako Matsu's song "When Spring Comes Tomorrow," and I arranged it with a different color in mind from the original song.

Finally, Ms. Uchiyama said, "The recording is progressing in a good atmosphere with everyone's cooperation. I think it is going to be a good result, so please look forward to it." Ms. Hatanaka said, "It is quiet at the site, but we are doing passionate postrecording, so I think it will be a passionate work. I hope you will watch Battery to the end."
