Original story by Hideaki Sorachi
The key word "samurai" in "Bakumatsu" in "JUMP" made me think it was a big manga on par with "Rurouni Kenshin," and such a gorgeous staff and cast came together.
No matter how gorgeous the members may be, it is a basic mud boat because it is based on an original story. I wanted them all to die along with Gintama, but ever since I saw Fukuda in "Yoshihiko the Brave", where he was so good at pulling you into the story and making you laugh without regard to the cosplay feel, I wanted him to die out of jealousy, and Oguri was so cool in "Claws", I was nervous that I would be sued from the moment I let him appear in the manga without permission, and I knew I had to get into Suzuran from the moment I saw Oguri cut Gintama in one volume when his bookshelf was shown on TV before, so I thought it would be a good opportunity to eliminate two disturbing talents.
Live-action adaptations of manga are always criticized when they differ from the image, but I believe that no matter what we do now, readers' images of Gintama characters will not be blurred, and the people who gathered here were prepared for that and still said they wanted to ride Gintama, even if it was a muddy boat, so I hope that they will be able to enjoy the experience of working with such people. So, I frankly felt that I would like to see another form of Gintama made by such people, even if it is a flop, and I would be happy if they could see it. So, to all of you out there. It is fine to laugh or to cry at the sight of these "modern" "samurai" who went to the trouble of boarding a sinking ship. Enjoy the movie and the story.

Director Yuichi Fukuda
I am truly honored that Mr. Sorachi entrusted me with this important work. The original work is supported by many fans.
I hope to express the charm of the original work in the live-action version, and I have assembled the strongest cast and crew, whom I have great confidence in. When I met Mr. Sorachi, he said to me, "Director Fukuda means, of course, the budget will be low this time, too! But with Gintama, unfortunately? We received a lot of budget. I would like to use up this budget for Gintama, which will make you laugh a lot and be moved.
