Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt", Origin and joint producer talk show report!

A talk show report from "Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt DECEMBER SKY" has arrived.

Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt" is an anime work based on Yasuo Otagaki's manga serialized in Big Comics Superior. The director's cut version of "Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt DECEMBER SKY," which includes all four episodes that have been distributed since December 2015, plus new cuts, will be released on June 25.SKY" is being shown in theaters for a limited two-week run from June 25 to July 8.

A producer talk show titled "Origin vs. Thunderbolt Producer Talk round.3" was held on July 5, with "Thunderbolt" producer Naohiro Ogata, "Origin" producers Osamu Taniguchi and Yoshitaka Kawaguchi, and anime critic Ryota Fujitsu on stage. The show was a great success, and the audience was very excited to see the newest productions. Below is a report.

The venue was filled with excitement as it was right after the screening of "Thunderbolt," and the guests appeared with jazz composed by Naruyoshi Kikuchi, who was in charge of music for the film. The talk show began with a chronological table of Sunrise's productions of successive "Gundam" series, and producer Kawaguchi, who is deeply familiar with Sunrise's history, introduced the staff in charge of successive Gundam series and talked about "Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket" and "Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: STARDUST MEMORIES" as well as "Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: STARDUST MEMORIES". He also talked about the secret stories behind the production of "Mobile Suit Gundam 0083 STARDUST MEMORY" and "There were tough times for Sunrise in the past. Making a Gundam is very expensive (laughs). Taniguchi, the producer of "Origin," also shared a story that you can only hear here: "At first, I didn't know much about "Origin," and when I read the comic, I thought, 'Oh, Yasuhiko-san is drawing that comic. It was a tough start," he said. In the middle of the production, producer Kawaguchi said, "In the past, I felt like I had a Gundam fetish, or a kind of middle-of-the-road view of Gundam that was desired, and that was the reason why I was sometimes rattled. But now that so many are being made, it's a lot easier to make Gundams, isn't it? Producer Ogata responded, "It's still tough as ever for the writers and the production staff, but it's no longer necessary to be this way. The rest is a matter of determination (laughs).

The audience was asked about how "Thunderbolt," which was said to be difficult to make into an anime because Yasuo Otagaki, who wrote the original manga, had refined the mobile suit designs and freely created the settings, was made into an anime this time. When asked, there was the question of whether "Thunderbolt" was a true story or a parallel story, but to be honest, we were not that conscious of it. Until now, we thought that what had been made into a movie was the official history, but as Kawaguchi-san mentioned earlier, the range of Gundam has been expanding rapidly, and the timing for "Thunderbolt" happened to be good from the studio's perspective. During the production of "Thunderbolts," producer Ogata answered, "Of course, because Sunrise is doing the work, we wanted to make it so that it could be incorporated into the official history, but if we went too far, we would lose the flavor of Mr. Otagaki, so we thought it was okay to make a half parallel to that. Producer Ogata of "Thunderbolts" responded. Anime critic Mr. Fujitsu then commented, "From the viewer's point of view, 'Origin' is a historical story, so I feel like I'm making up for historical facts with my imagination, but 'Thunderbolt' is more like a fictional war story, like 'Holy Gundam' or 'Gundam G Reconguista', so it's not surprising that this time period exists somewhere in the series. It's a worldview that wouldn't be out of place," he said, commenting on "Thunderbolt" from the perspective of the Gundam series as a whole. Producer Ogata concluded, "I think it's fine to think of 'Thunderbolt' as the second cosmic century, borrowing only the Gundam setting, as Mr. Tomino used to say (laughs). As the producer of "Thunderbolt," which is unique in the Gundam series, the Gundam fans who filled the hall were filled with expectations for the future development of the series. The talk show ended on a high note with the producer of "Thunderbolt," who is unique in the Gundam series, leaving the Gundam fans in the audience with high expectations for the future development of the series.
