Makoto Shinkai's Latest Film "Kimi no na wa. held its world premiere at Anime Expo! Standing ovation for over 5 minutes from the large audience.

Kimi no na wa. is the latest work by Makoto Shinkai, the director of "5 Centimeters per Second" and "The Garden of Words," whose beautiful animation and delicate stories have gained worldwide popularity. The film features a high school girl from the countryside who yearns for the city and a high school boy from the city, and depicts their love and a miracle when they switch places in a dream.
The original story, director, and screenplay are by Makoto Shinkai, the animation director is Masashi Ando, who has participated in many Studio Ghibli films including "Spirited Away," the character design is by Masaga Tanaka of "My Heart is Screaming. The music is by RADWIMPS, and the production is by Comics Wave Film.


Amidst growing attention toward the film's release, the world premiere was held at Anime Expo 2016, the largest anime convention in North America, on July 3 (local time). The high expectations worldwide drew a long line of people to the Los Angeles Convention Center hall, and when the end roll was played, the 3,400-strong audience gave the film a standing ovation that lasted more than five minutes. Following the world premiere, the film will be distributed in North America.

After the first screening, director Makoto Shinkai said, "I never imagined that people would laugh, cry, and applaud at so many different scenes during the screening. I was moved to realize that there are fans who have been waiting for this film for years.
