On June 19, a special event "Ashes to Gekisou no Grimgar -Grimgar, Live and Act-" was held, with seven main cast members and the creative unit "(K)NoW_NAME", which is in charge of the theme song, insert song, and music for the play, taking the stage. The special stage was a fusion of a reading play, animation video, and live performance by the artists. Here is the report.

Ashes to Gekisou no Grimgar -Grimgar, Live and Act" took place on Sunday, June 19, 2016 at Katsushika Symphony Hills in Tokyo.

The event featured cast members including Yoshimasa Hosoya as Haruhiro, Hiroyuki Yoshino as Ranta, Nobunaga Shimazaki as Manato, Fukutsugu Ochiai as Mogzo, Mikako Komatsu as Yume, Haruka Terui as Shiholu, and Chika Asai as Merii, as well as creative unit (K)NoW_NAME, which sang the theme song, accompaniment and insert song for the film. The cast includes Chika Anzai, who plays Merii.

Usually in TV animation, the music is created first and then adapted to the main visuals later. However, in this work, the music was created for each episode based on the actual images, scenario, and storyboards, and was created in accordance with the development of the story.

At this event, the unique sound of this work was expressed to the fullest by interspersing the live music used in each episode between the story readings, which were in line with the flow of the TV series' story.

The event began with a reading of a scene in which Haruhiro takes Manato's notebook in his hands. After performances of "Knew day" and "Head Wind," the audience was treated to live performances of memorable scenes such as the battle with the goblins immediately after the party was formed, and the shock of the moment when the goblins were first put into his hands.

The event then continued on, alternating between readings and performances. The highlight of the first half was the episode about Manato's death, which was also depicted impressively in the main anime. Here, Manato's complicated emotional state, which had not been depicted in either the original story or the anime, was depicted in detail. This expression was made possible by the fact that Ao Jumonji, the author of the original story, worked on the entire scenario of this event.

The first half of the event then ended with Merii joining the party, a rematch with the goblins that led to Manato's death, and a report to Manato's grave: ....... After a short break, the events move into the second half.

After a long holiday, the party members begin their challenge to the Sairin Mine, a place that holds bitter memories for Merii's former party. The audience's excitement reached a climax as the famous scenes were recreated one after another, including Merii's "reunion" with her undead former friends, the attack by the powerful enemy Deadspot, Ranta's solitary struggle after being separated from her friends, and the one-on-one confrontation between Deadspot and Haruhiro.

The reading of the play concluded with Haruhiro's words of bright hope for the future, once again from the perspective of the present.

After a live performance of "Harvest" and the end roll, the cast and members of (K)NoW_NAME gathered on stage for a curtain call. The audience was invited to join in the curtain call by Komatsu, who thanked the audience for their support. In contrast to the serious content of the main part of the show, there were many moments of laughter from the audience in this corner. As Hosoya stated in his comment, "We created this stage together with everyone in the audience," the warmth of the atmosphere between the creators and fans surrounding this work was strongly felt at the event.

The closing words of the event were "See you tomorrow! by Hosoya. As he said, the future of the party and the works will be interesting to see.

A Blu-ray of the event will be released on Wednesday, September 28, 2016.
