Akiba Spoils] Cheap SD cards with SLC chips for embedded use are now on sale at Toei Land Co.

Akiba Koho" is an irregular column introducing PC parts and digital gadgets that the Akiba Research Institute staff found interesting during interviews.

Cheap SD memory cards employing SLC chips are now on sale at Toei Land.

There are three models in capacities of 512MB, 2GB, and 16GB, all in bulk. Since these are SD cards for built-in use, there are no labels or other indications of any kind, but the store's POP touts "high durability," "weather resistance," and "high quality. Speed class is unknown. MADE IN TAIWAN" can be seen on the terminal side.

Most SD memory cards currently available in stores are TLC chips (some are MLC chips); SD memory cards with SLC chips are only distributed for embedded use and are rarely sold in stores.

It may be interesting to try it with Raspberry Pi, etc., although whether it will be recognized depends on luck.

Prices at the store are 380 yen (including tax) for 512MB, 300 yen (including tax) for 2GB, and 500 yen (including tax) for 16GB.
