Anime "YAMUSUME PEDAL SPARE BIKE" reveals advance scene cuts from the "Toudou Arc"! Comments from Tetsuya Kakihara have also arrived!

Scene cuts, setting images, and cast comments have arrived from the anime "WIMUSU PEDAL SPARE BIKE," which will be screened for a special two-week limited run starting September 9.

The anime is based on the manga series by Wataru Watanabe, serialized in Bessatsu Shonen Champion, and is a spin-off series of "Weak Mushi Pedal. kun" as an extra part. The third season of the TV anime "Wimpy Pedal" will start in January 2017.

The "Todo Jyuhachi Arc" has been unveiled with advance scene cuts and character set-up drawings. The scenes show Todo in his junior high school days, his friend Shusaku Itokawa who inspires him to start bicycle racing, and Minamizu, the manager of Hakone Academy.

Below is a comment from Tetsuya Kakihara, who plays Todo.

──How was it playing the role of Todo Jyohachi in middle school?

I don't think his narcissism or fundamental personality has changed. However, what he values most is different. In high school, his bike is the most important thing to him, and his rival Maki-chan, with whom he can compete on that bike, is the most important. In middle school, he just values fashion and friends. He has not yet found something that he can devote himself to with his life, so I played him more pure than he was in high school.

The story depicts Todo's encounter with bicycles (road bikes).

(As Shusaku and I raced against each other on the mountain paths, I was moving my body without any regard for my fashion, which I cherish so much, even if it was in disarray. I felt that he is the kind of boy who cannot lose when it comes to competition.

───What kind of person is Todo to you, Kakihara-san?

For me, Jehachi is a character that I can get straight into the role and say the lines as I feel them. He is so cute and fun to play that it makes me want to play him even better. He is a very special character.

─ ─ Do you have a message for those who are waiting for the screening?

Please look forward to seeing the middle-schooler Jehachi, whom I have never met before. I am sure you will discover something new!
