Anime "WIMUSHUME PEDAL SPARE BIKE" Completion Screening Report Arrives!　Shotaro Morikubo and Tetsuya Kakihara talk about the difficulty of playing the past.

An official report from the completion screening of the anime "WIMUSU PEDAL SPARE BIKE," which will be screened for two weeks only starting September 9, has arrived.

The anime "Weak Pedal SPARE BIKE" is based on the manga of the same title serialized in Bessatsu Shonen Champion by Wataru Watanabe, and is a spin-off series focusing on the past of the third-year characters in "Weak Pedal". This time, the episodes of Yusuke Makishima and Jyuhachi Todo, two of the best climbers in the series, are visualized in the film.

Shotaro Morikubo, who plays Yusuke Makishima, and Tetsuya Kakihara, who plays Jyuhachi Todo, appeared at the completion announcement screening held at TOHO Cinemas Shinjuku on Sunday, August 28. Below is the official report.

Prior to the release of the film, a completion announcement screening was held at TOHO Cinemas Shinjuku on August 28 (Sun.), where Shotaro Morikubo, who plays the "lead" in the film, acting Yusuke Makishima, and Tetsuya Kakihara, acting Jyohachi Todo, appeared on stage to greet the audience.

After the screening of "Weak Pedal SPARE BIKE," Shotaro Morikubo and Tetsuya Kakihara took the stage to loud cheers. Although they have appeared together many times in the anime "WIMUSHU PEDAL", this was the first time they appeared together as a pair. They said it was a lot of fun to watch each other's performances on the screen.

The two actors played the pasts of their respective characters in "WIMUSHU PEDAL: SPARE BIKE. Mr. Morikubo, who played Makishima in his first year of high school, commented, "As the timeline progressed from the TV series to the movie version, my feelings accumulated as I played the role, so it was a little difficult to play a character from the past in this film. Hearing this, Kakihara-san laughed and said, "Makishima was in his first year of high school, but Todo was in his second year of junior high school. ......" He then asked, "What was Todo doing when Maki-chan was in his first year of high school? And what was Maki-chan like in the second year of junior high school? I felt a bit frustrated that I couldn't be there to see the film.

When asked what he kept in mind when depicting the past of each character, Mr. Morikubo replied, "Makishima at that time had not yet established a pillar of himself. He wants to run with his own thoughts, but he is at the mercy of his seniors' words. But from there, he follows his own beliefs." After explaining his role, he said, "What I felt while playing this role was that the presence of senior Michizaki (CV: Junichi Suwabe), who appears as the captain of the team, is very important to Makishima, When I watched the finished work, I felt again how cool he was, throwing words of encouragement to Makishima," he said. He also mentioned that the scenes depicting Kanzaki exchanging words with Makishima were fresh, and that the performances of Mamoru Kaneshiro (CV: Hiroki Yasumoto) and Tadokoro Shun (CV: Kentaro Ito) in their first year of high school were also highlights of the film.
Kakihara-san, who played the role of Todo in junior high school, said, "The character of Jehachi himself hasn't changed, but it was a time when he hadn't yet met the bike that he was going to put his whole self into. I was able to meet a Zyuhachi that I didn't know myself." When Todo shows kindness to his friend Shusaku Itokawa (CV: Daisuke Sakaguchi) during their first race, Shusaku tells Todo, "In a bicycle race, you don't need to be kind, just aim for the goal," and he starts to run regardless of himself. I was very happy to be able to play the role of that moment when he grows as a man.
