In collaboration with "Awakoi", CHiCO with HoneyWorks again bursts with "the feeling of falling in love"!

The opening theme song "Koiiro ni sakake" for the movie "Sonna kara mae ni suki da. ~Their fifth single, "Kanure to Wolf," is a collaboration with the shoujo manga "Awakoi," which is a new work by popular manga artist Funan Mizunami. The song is a new work by popular manga artist Funan Mizunami, and it is currently the talk of the town. Kanure" is sung from the perspective of the main character, a girl, while "Wolf" is sung from the perspective of the boy she falls in love with, and the two songs are completely opposite in tone and vocal style, allowing the audience to enjoy HoneyWorks' songwriting and CHiCO's vocal excellence from both perspectives.

In this interview, CHiCO tells us what to listen to and the secret story behind the recording of the song!

When I saw the raw draft of "Awakoi", myself and my brothers at HoneyWorks were very excited (laughs)!

───Your latest work, "Kanure to Ulf" is a collaboration single with the popular girls' manga "Awakoi" by Funan Mizunami.

CHiCO I was very happy when I first heard about it. When I was in high school, I read "I'll Start Love Today" by Ms. Mizunami, and I loved her work. When I met her for an interview for "Sho-Comi" (published by Shogakukan), where "Awakoi" is serialized, she showed me the raw draft, and I was very excited, as were my brothers from HoneyWorks (laugh).

(Laughs) ─ Gom and shito of HoneyWorks love shoujo manga, don't they?

CHiCO "Wow, wow," we all said in excitement. Mizunami-sensei also came to CHiCO with HoneyWorks' live performance at Shibuya O-EAST on August 4. The staff later told me that it was Mr. Mizunami. I was so happy.

─ So you supported Chikohani.

CHiCO It was on that day that I first announced that the next single would be a collaboration with "Awakoi. I was so happy when I said "Do you know 'Awakoi'? I was so happy to hear the cheers from the female audience. I said, "This is a collaboration with a shoujo manga, but will boys listen to it too? The boys responded, "Of course! I was so happy to hear that. I wanted them to read not only "Wolf and Canure" but also "Awakoi". I think that boys who are fans of Hanawa and Chikohani will like the world of shoujo manga.

─ ─ Did you finish recording at that time?

CHiCO No, we recorded a tentative song right after the one-man live concert, and a few days later we recorded the actual song.

───That means it was right around the time when the serialization of "Awakoi" started.

CHiCO Yes. I read the first episode that was published in the magazine before recording, and I read the second episode beforehand during the actual recording of "Kanure". It was an exciting turn of events. I remember thinking, "What's going to happen next?

─ ─ "Awakoi" has an interesting development that shakes things up from the very beginning (laughs). The first song "Kanure" was written from a girl's point of view, and the second song "Wolf" was written from a boy's point of view.

CHiCO The lyrics were written before the serialization started, so Gom and shito-san used the setting materials they received to create the songs from their imagination. The lyrics for "Kanure" were written after reading the first episode, so the lyrics are specifically linked to the story.

─ How did you divide the roles of lyricist and composer?

CHiCO "Kanure" was composed by Gom and "Wolf" by shito, and both songs were co-written by both of them.
