The original manga was serialized by Kazuki Yamato in "Shukan Shoujo Friend" (Kodansha) from 1975 to 1977, and depicts the turbulent adolescence of the main character, Benio Hanamura, set in the Taisho era. It was announced that it would be adapted into a theater anime in 2017.

The film will be directed and written by Kazuhiro Furuhashi, director of "Mobile Suit Gundam UC" and "Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Roman Roman Tan," with Saori Hayami playing the main character, Benio Hanamura, and Mamoru Miyano playing her fiance, Shinobu Ijuin.
