First of all, it is impressive that the songs that ultimately ranked 1st through 4th in this year's ED theme poll were in a rather fierce dead heat. All of the songs were voted for by fans of each artist via Twitter, etc., and it is believed that a large number of votes were collected for each song. The final dead heat between aki's "Kessan tachi hanten aozora" (Bishoujo Yuugi Unit Crane Gale Galaxy ED), which came in first, and Asaka's "Open your eyes" (Occultic;Nine - ED), which came in second, was quite exciting. The final dead heat between the two was quite exciting.
The two songs ranked within the top three were "Absolute Sunny Blue Sky" (No.1) and "destiny " (Nazotokine: ED), both by aki (a.k.a Deguchi Yo), a former SKE48 member who is currently active as a singer. Both songs were ranked in the top three for this season's fall anime, and both songs received a large number of votes from fans spreading the word on Twitter and other means. In particular, "Kantei Teki Hanten Aozora" was ranked number one with a massive 6,714 votes, and although it has little connection to the anime work, it is a high quality song. In addition, "nazotokine", for which "destiny" took third place, was ranked third in the earlier "2016 Fall Anime OP Theme Popularity Poll", with Yushu Fujisaki's "Dimension sky" coming in third in both the OP/ED categories.
The song "Open your eyes" by Asakihana came in second place, fiercely catching up to the No. 1 song "Absolute Sunny Blue Sky" in the final stages of the voting. This song is the ED theme of "Occultic;Nine," which is one of the most popular fall anime of the season, with a very intricate storyline that keeps the viewer's attention until the very end. The ED theme, "Open your eyes," which plays at the end of the work, has an exquisite aftertaste that goes well with the occult/mystery atmosphere of the work, and it is surprising that the singer of this song, Asaka, is only 17 years old and still a high school student. Her debut single is "Open your eyes. We look forward to her future career as an artist.
Another song that unfortunately did not make the top three, but came in at No. 4, "My Papa Protects the Earth ~我爹守护地球~" by Kazuyoshi Hayashi, is also a very different kind of song. TO BE HERO" itself is a Japan-China co-production of a short animation, and the ED theme is also a bit unusual in that the lyrics are sung entirely in Chinese with Japanese subtitles. The song itself has a techno sound similar to game music, and has been well received on the Internet as "Once you listen to it, you will be addicted! and it is gaining a reputation as "addictive once you hear it!
Thus, with the exception of "Open your eyes" (No. 2), the songs in the dead heat from No. 1 to No. 4 were ED themes for short anime works that are not well known, so it can be said that the power of the songs themselves or their fans is more important than the power of the works themselves. In contrast, the songs ranked 5th and below are all ED themes of notable animation works of the season, and they seem to have gained popularity in their own right.
