Tomihiko Morimi's novel "The Night is Short and the Walking Girl" to be adapted into an anime film! Singer-songwriter Gen Hoshino will play the role of the main character, Senpai.

An anime film adaptation of the novel "The Night is Short and the Walking Girl" written by Tomihiko Morimi has been decided.

This is a coming-of-age love story about a "senior" who has feelings for a "black-haired girl" who is a junior in his club, and tries to "catch her eye" as much as possible. Set in Kyoto, the film depicts the senior's love story as he gets involved in unusual incidents caused by his unique friends.
The film is directed by Masaaki Yuasa, written by Makoto Ueda (Europe Planning), with original character designs by Yusuke Nakamura and theme song by ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION, the creators of the TV anime "Shijohan Shinwa Taikei" reuniting for the first time in six years.

The key visual by Yusuke Nakamura has been unveiled. Against the background of the four seasons of Kyoto, the setting of the film, the image depicts a senior student who is stuck in a tight knot against a "black-haired maiden.

It was also announced that Gen Hoshino, a singer-songwriter and actor, will play the role of Senpai, the main character. This is Hoshino's first starring role as an anime voice actor, and it will be interesting to see how he will portray the role of the senior student, a dull college student who can never make any progress in his love life, but only fills the outer moat.

In addition to Gen Hoshino, comments from director Masaaki Yuasa and Tomihiko Morimi have arrived.
The comments are as follows.

Comments
Gen Hoshino (senior student)
Director Masaaki Yuasa sent me a handwritten letter one day. I had never met him before, so why? I opened the sealed envelope and opened it.
I opened the sealed envelope and read the words, "If you play the main character, it will definitely be an interesting film. I had been an admirer of director Yuasa's work since that day 12 years ago when I saw the movie "Mind Game," and I had no choice but to decline the offer.
I am very much looking forward to playing the role of "senpai" (senior). I look forward to working with you.

Director Masaaki Yuasa
This is the long-awaited anime film adaptation of "The Night is Short and the Walking Girl," Tomihiko Morimi's first daughter!
The staff of "Shijohan Shinwa Taikei" gathered again and worked hard to produce this film! As the title suggests, the movie will be made as the Otome continues to walk throughout the night! The idea that Morimi-sensei had conceived but never used has also been realized! We also deciphered unexpected character relationships that we had not noticed when we read the book before!
The fact that the voice of the senior student is voiced by Minamoto Hoshino is also a reason for everyone to get excited!
It's guaranteed to be a lot of fun, so please come see it in the theater!

Original story by Tomihiko Morimi
Looking back on the long twists and turns up to this point, I am filled with emotion.
I am deeply grateful to Director Yuasa and everyone involved for their efforts,
I look forward to the day when I will be able to see "The Maiden with Black Hair" on the silver screen.
