AnimeJapan 2017 was held at Tokyo Big Sight from Thursday, March 23 to Sunday, March 26, 2017. On March 26 (Sun.), a special stage for the anime film "The Lesser Students of Magical High School: The Girl Who Calls the Stars" was held on the RED Stage. This work is based on a popular light novel series that has sold a total of 7.7 million copies and depicts the school life of Tatsuya Shiba and his sister Miyuki and their tumultuous days at the fictional educational institution "Magical Science High School," which trains "magicians" to handle systematized magic. The series has been adapted into TV anime, comic books, video games, and other media, but this is the first time it has been made into a movie. The cast and staff members' passion for the anime, which has been three years since its TV broadcast in 2014, could be felt on stage.

The five guests on stage this time were Yuichi Nakamura (Tatsuya), Saori Hayami (Miyuki), Yumi Uchiyama (Erika Chiba), Satomi Sato (Mizuki Shibata), and a secret guest, Yoko Hikasa (Angelina Kudou-Shields). Each spoke about their feelings toward the film version and its highlights. Ms. Nakamura said, "When I heard about the movie version, I was worried about what kind of story we would tell and who would be in it, but rest assured, there is no one here who won't be in it!
