The song is filled with a sense of affinity with the original author, Isayama Hajime Isayama. The new single by Kamattechan is all about "Shinkage no Kyojin"!

Sacred Kamattechan sings "Yugure no Tori", the ending theme of the TV anime "Shinkage no Kyojin" Season 2. This collaboration was realized at the request of the original author, Hajime Isayama, after a rental transfer to a new record company. The newly released single includes not only "Yugure no Tori" but also "Hikari no Kotoba" (Words of Light), which was composed as a candidate for the ending theme, as both A-sides. In addition, two existing songs related to "Shinkage no Kyojin" are also included as couplings, making this a "Shinkage"-focused single.
We asked vocalist Noko, keyboardist Mono, and bassist Chibagin to talk about the album.

Even my father was surprised by the announcement of the rental transfer.

─ I heard that the request to play the ending theme for "Shinkage no Kyojin" Season 2 came from the original author, Hajime Isayama.

Nozuko: That's right. I'm here now because of one word from Isayama-sensei's crane. It is an amazing story.

Chibagin Thanks to the generous hearts of not only Mr. Isayama but also the production committee and Pony Canyon, we are here.

─ ─ Even for us, we are impressed that we could meet everyone from Sacred Kamattechan in Pony Canyon's conference room (laughs). This time, the transfer is in the form of a rental transfer of only one single, but it was controversial, partly because it was announced on April 1, wasn't it?

Many people were really surprised when they heard that you were transferring completely. Even bands from the same office were seriously concerned, saying, "You quit, did you? (laughs).

mono Sorry for making you worry.

mono My father was also surprised and thought, "Did you get fired? (Laughs.) We didn't tell anyone, and the project was already underway.

───To begin with, how did you come up with the idea for this project?

Noko: I heard that there was talk of using us in the first phase of the project. Since there were rumors of this, I thought that a second term might be possible. It was a year ago that I first heard about it, and while I was naturally surprised, I also felt a sense of "Yay! I was also thinking, "Yes!

mono I thought it had finally come.

Chibagin It was more like, "It's really here" (laughs).

─ When was the last time you talked directly with Mr. Isayama?

Noko: It was last summer. At that time, Mr. Isayama said that he envisioned an image like the opening of "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind," and he wanted us to write a song that would give a sense of holly. He asked us to write a song with a holly feeling. We asked him to give us a specific song that was already there, and he asked us to make it like this song.

──When I heard that it was the opening of "Nausicaa," I knew exactly what I wanted to do. The ending of "The Battlestar of the Third Reich" Season 2 is a bit like a picture scroll, isn't it?

Noko: When I saw the ending on air, it finally made sense to me, too (laughs). (Laughs.) I was like, "Oh, this is what I wanted to do. But the level of perfection was far beyond my expectations. I was really impressed.

mono The quality was really high.

Nohko: I was also very happy that Mr. Isayama was involved in the production of the video.

He was in charge of the storyboard, wasn't he?

Chibagin That was probably the most unusual of the unusual.

Nohko: I think our song turned out to be as good an ending theme as the video.

─ Mr. Isayama is a fan of Kamattechan, right? And the specific song that came up as "something like this" was "Concrete no Mukoukougawa e" (included in the album "Fun" released in 2012).

Chibagin: Originally, Mr. Isayama had a fantasy that "To the Other Side of the Concrete" could be used as the ending theme for "Shinkage no Kyojin" (......). But we couldn't just leave it as it was, so we asked him to create a new song based on that image.

Nohko: Mr. Isayama and I have the same sensibility. That's why it was very easy for us to write the lyrics and the music. I am sure that not only "Shinkage no Kyojin," but any work by Isayama-sensei would be easy to work on because we are on the same wavelength. Like Hayao Miyazaki and Joe Hisaishi. I don't mean to go that far (laughs).

─ ─ Did Isayama-sensei say anything about the appeal of Kamattechan's music during the meeting?

No, from the beginning, he wasn't the type of person to talk about such things. It was like we were both commies (laughs).

Chibagin We were both nervous of each other (laughs).
