Animated film "Mary and the Witch's Flower" with Ryunosuke Kamiki as Peter! Re-teaming with Director Yonebayashi after 7 years

New casting information has been released from the animated film "Mary and the Witch's Flower," which will be released on July 8, 2017. Actor Ryunosuke Kamiki will play the role of Peter.




Mary and the Witch's Flower" is a new feature-length animated film by Hiromasa Yonebayashi, director of "The Borrower Arrietty" and "Marnie of the Memories" after leaving Studio Ghibli. The film is a fantasy blockbuster depicting the adventures of Mary, who discovers a forbidden flower, "Night Flight," which blooms only once every seven years. Produced by Studio Ponoc.

It has been announced that Ryunosuke Kamiki will play the role of Peter, a boy from the red house village who gets caught up in a big incident due to Mary's small lie. Ryunosuke Kamiki previously appeared in "The Borrower Arrietty" as the sensitive young man Sho, and this will be his second collaboration with director Hiromasa Yonebayashi in seven years. Director Hiromasa Yonebayashi

It had been 7 years since I worked with Mr. Kamiki since Arrietty, and I asked him to play the role of a 12 year old boy as he did last time. He is Peter, a local honor student and a hardworking boy whom Mary meets when she moves to a new place.
Peter laughs at Mary's constant screw-ups, but Mr. Kamiki played the role in a refreshingly sarcastic way. The bumpy duo of Ms. Sugisaki's Mary and Mr. Kamiki's Peter gave the film a warm atmosphere.

■Producer Nishimura
Innocence, tenderness, fragility, and resilience in a boy just before puberty. When I sought the boyishness that exists neither as a child nor an adult, but only temporarily in between, I found the right answer in Ryunosuke Kamiki's voice. Peter is the most difficult character in the film, tossed about by the mischievous Mary, but he is the best "good guy" in the film.
