Animation Film "Dawn Tells Lou's Song" Wins Grand Prix in Feature Film Category at Annecy International Animated Film Festival! Comments from Director Yuasa

The animation film " Dawn Tells Lou's Song, " now in theaters, won the Crystal Award, the Grand Prix, in the feature film category at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2017 held in France .




Dawn Tells Lou's Song" is the first completely original theatrical animation directed by Masaaki Yuasa, who has produced many high-profile works including "Shijohan Shinwa Taikei" and "Ping Pong: The Animation". Set in the desolate fishing port town of Himashi, the film depicts the story of Kai, a boy with depressed feelings toward his divorced parents, and Roo, a mermaid girl, with the fast-paced and dynamic animation typical of Yuasa. The original character design is by Nemu Yoko, manga artist of "Lawless Zone at 3:00 a.m.," and the screenplay is by K-ON! Girls und Panzer" by Reiko Yoshida, and music by Takatsugu Muramatsu of "Mary and the Witch's Flower.

This time, it won the Crystal Award, the Grand Prix in the feature film category, at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2017, held in France from June 12 (Mon.) to 17 (Sat.). This is the first time in 22 years since "Heisei Raccoon War Ponpoko" (directed by Isao Takahata) in 1995 that a Japanese film has won this award. Director Yuasa said, "Congratulations to all the staff and cast! Thank you also to those who supported us. I'm glad! I'm very happy for you!" and his award-winning comment.
