The animated film "In a Corner of the World" won the Jury Prize in the Feature Film Category at the 41st Annecy International Animated Film Festival, Annecy 2017, currently being held in France. A comment from Sunao Katabuchi, director of the film, arrived at the festival.
Kono Sekai no Katasumi ni (In a Corner of the World)" is an animated feature film based on the manga series by Fumiyo Kono in Manga Action (published by Futabasha). The film depicts the lives of people in Kure, Hiroshima Prefecture, during the 1940s and 1945s, as depicted by Suzu, a young girl who married at the age of 18, and lived a normal life even during the war. Directed by Sunao Katabuchi of "Mai Mai Shinko and the Magic of a Thousand Years," the film spends six years meticulously researching Kure during and after the war and examining the period in order to vividly depict the world of the original story.

The "In This Corner of the World", which has just announced the release of Blu-ray & DVD, was awarded the Jury Prize in the feature film category at the 41st Annecy International Animation Film Festival, currently being held in France at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2017. Comments from director Sunao Katabuchi and producer Taro Maki have arrived.
On June 15 (Thu.), the 217th day of the film's release, the total number of viewers since its opening day exceeded 2 million, and a "Thank You for 2 Million Customers" project will be held soon, so please check back soon.

The 41st Annecy International Animated Film Festival opened on Monday, June 12, local time. Although the screening started at 10:30 in the morning, the main venue Bonlieu Grande Salle was filled to capacity with 982 audience members. After the screening, a press conference was held, with director Sunao Katabuchi saying, "I took on the challenge of recreating the streets of Kure, Hiroshima, as they were 70 years ago. The following day, a conference was held to discuss the film.
At a conference held the following day, he announced that he had conducted thorough research on the prewar Nakajima Honmachi area of Hiroshima before making the film.
On the day of the award ceremony, Saturday the 17th, a second conference was held, in which the artist discussed in more detail the life and culture of women in the prewar period.
After the conference, a long line of people lined up to sign autographs.
Then came the award ceremony for the Feature Length Competition section. Director Sunao Katabuchi and other filmmakerswon the Jury Prize in the Feature Film Competition, the Runner-up Grand Prix,from among 10 films selected from around the world.
After the Annecy Film Festival, the film will bereleased in theaters around the world.
The film will be released at the end of June in the U.K. and Spain. The U.S.will follow onAugust 11, andFrance on September 13.
