─ ─ "Space Battleship Yamato 2202: Warriors of Love" Chapter 2 "Launching Arc" will be screened in theaters soon, what is your current state of mind?

Ono: I think the first chapter, "The Pioneer Arc," was about the conflict of why the Ancients had to board the Yamato. Therefore, this second chapter is the true start of the journey. So, the second chapter is the real departure of the Yamato ship. I, too, feel that I can finally leave on this journey now that I've reached the second chapter.

─ ─ In "Space Battleship Yamato 2199," you were on a mission to save the Earth, but this time you are leaving on your own volition.

Ono: With "2199," I think there was a part of me that was driven by a sense of mission that said, "I have to do it. The difference this time, however, is that we gathered and launched the project of our own volition. Of course, there is the part that they were called by people they care about, but I feel the strong will of each of them to "do it.

─ ─ However, Ancient himself is also troubled by the process. The existence of an unknown enemy and the current state of the earth.

Ono: It is resentment toward the reality of the Earth, which was being advanced without his knowledge. In "2199," Ancient man reached a state of mind that "we can understand each other even with aliens," but I think this feeling was not based on logic, but on what he felt in his own skin. That is why he felt frustrated that we could not understand each other even though we are both from the same planet. He must have felt frustrated.

───This film depicts the anguish of the real society. In that sense, it could be said to be very modern.

Ono: Harutoshi Fukui also said that he wanted the script for "2202" to reflect modern human relationships. I think you can really feel that in the script. I am 39 years old this year, and I think people who are a little older than me can feel that painfully. I am in the middle management of an organization, so I feel the sadness of being in the middle management, or the sorrow of being in a society where things are not going well. I think that ancient people also felt that kind of unfulfilled anger. I think Yamato fans of the same or older generation as me might be able to relate to the same feelings.
