DAOKO Comment
I sang this song while picturing a boy and a girl walking on the beach with big iridescent clouds in the distance, the surface of the water glistening in the reflection of the orange of the sunset, and the sound of the waves never stopping. I can no longer feel the same things as I did then, but I hope that everyone who listens to this song will feel the beautiful world that Norimichi and Nazuna see in this song. This summer will be like fireworks.

Comment from Genshi Yonezu
I loved the original story by Shunji Iwai. I started writing this song hoping to express the sadness of a summer moment.
Combined with DAOKO's singing voice, I think it turned out very well.
I am very much looking forward to seeing how the movie will turn out.

Director Akiyuki Shinbo comment
I was surprised when the producer suggested that DAOKO and Yonezu Genji sing the theme song, and at the same time I thought it would be interesting. I had always paid attention to DAOKO myself and was fascinated by her voice and sense of style. I had also worked with Yonezu Genji on "March Lion" and had witnessed his talent firsthand. I believe that the collaboration between these two artists created a new chemical reaction that resulted in the birth of a wonderful masterpiece. I am truly grateful to DAOKO and Yonezu for their voices, which made the story of Nazuna and Norimichi shine even more beautifully in the ending of the film.

Shunji Iwai Comment
I never thought I would visit the same location again to shoot the music video for Forever Friends. In those days, "From the North" was shot with such specifications. If only it had been shot on film. If only the negatives had remained. I have been thinking about all kinds of "ifs" even after all this time. I should congratulate DAOKO for reviving Forever Friends. I'm so grateful.

Story
It's summer vacation in a seaside town. Ahead of a fireworks display, a boy asks, "Are fireworks round or flat when seen from the side? Are they flat? Are they round or flat? Meanwhile, Norimichi's crush, Nazuna, has to transfer to a new school because her mother is getting remarried. "Let's have a play date!"
Nazuna invites Norimichi to run away from the town, but her mother takes her back. Norimichi can only watch and not help. If only I had been there..."
Norimichi, unable to save Nazuna, throws a mysterious ball that Nazuna picked up in the sea out of frustration. Before he knows it, time is rewound to the time before he was taken back....
At the end of a day that repeats itself over and over again, what fate will Nazuna and Norimichi reach?
