No.12 Kinnikuman KINKESHI 01 200yen Bandai

Kinkeshi is back with new modeling!　It is the beginning of the new history of Kinkeshi!　It's exciting!

Kinkeshi" is a series of PVC dolls based on "Kinnikuman", which was very popular in comics and anime from the late 1970's to the mid-1980's. It started in 1983, and was released for about 4 years until part 30. The total number of dolls is 418 in all!　The series has sold a total of 180 million dolls, including superheroes that appeared only once in a movie and superheroes created by readers who submitted their own ideas for a magazine project! The total number of Kinkeshi sold was 180 million! It was such a big boom that a song called "Kinkeshi Lullaby" was even produced.

As a young boy at the time, I used to play with Kinkeshi dolls. I used to let my imagination run wild, imagining stories that were too far removed from the original, and tag-teaming them with my own unique combinations. The monochromatic kinkeshi became brightly colored in our minds, their mouths emitted strange onomatopoeic sounds, their bodies moved in ways they were not supposed to, and they added a lively sense of motion by approaching their own faces from various angles. That was how I played all day long without really getting bored anymore. Kinkeshi had become my best friend, just as I enjoyed playing with my school friends.

On the other hand, I was often asked, "I wonder where KINKESHI is now after such a long time. Many people talk about KINKESHI. As we grow older, many of us may have outgrown the kinkeshi before we knew it. Well, I still have about 300 kinkeshis in my possession, still dragging my youth away.

Still, kinkeshis are really nice to look at now!　So let's compare the original Kinkeshi of 34 years ago with the new Kinkeshi. Overall, the new Kinkeshi is larger than the first generation. This is worth playing with. It also has a nice expression!　There are three colors: pale orange (is that what they call it now?), blue and red.

The first version starts with Kinnikuman, who is still the main character. This is the same as the first version. Others include Mongolman, Buffalo Man, and Pain Man. The Waza Keshi (Kinkeshi that can be combined to recreate a scene in which a certain technique is being performed) is immediately lined up with the new superhero, Nemesis!　Robin Mask is shown with a piledriver. Ashraman is also on hand to perform the Ashura Buster on Terryman.

There are many superheroes that have yet to be sculpted into Kinkeshi figures. With the revival of the series, these superheroes will also be released, and the dream match that I have wanted to have them fight for many years will finally be realized. ...... Now you can do what you left undone in your youth!　You may be able to have a time machine experience.

Incidentally, Kinkeshi has been reissued several times in the past, including a reissue for the 29th (Niku) anniversary project, but those were slightly smaller in size because the molds were made from the original Kinkeshi. This time, however, Keiatsu Hirota, whose father was the first Kinkeshi sculptor, is in charge of new sculpting. A generational change in Gashapon is taking place!　I guess a day like this will come if you live long enough!
