Minase: I am surprised that it has been almost two years since then. It was my first time to star in an anime film, but it was one of the works that changed my daily life greatly, as I was able to go to stage appearances all over Japan and talk to everyone face to face.
Shimizu: I put all my heart and soul into making the anime, so when I heard about the live-action version, I was very happy, but at the same time I was worried about how I should make it. Both the animation and the live-action have their own charms, so I would be happy if you like both.
I know that you have been to Chichibu many times. What is your impression of Chichibu?
Mizuse: Before working on this film, I only knew the name Chichibu, but after visiting several times, I feel so attached to it that I can say it is my second hometown. As a member of Chichibu, I hope that many more people will come to Chichibu through "KOKOSAKE".
Shimizu: I came here for the first time in 2009 for the location scouting for "Anohana. It is my second hometown too.
■Mizuse-san, you were the voice actor for the anime film, and in fact, you also played the role of a high school girl in the live-action version, didn't you? How did you feel about appearing in the live-action film?
Minase: I felt very strange when I saw the four cast members in front of me. I saw Ms. Yoshine's Jun-chan right in front of me. I was happy that the people who appeared in the scene with us talked to me in a friendly manner. Until I was introduced to everyone, I wondered "Who do they think I am? But when I was introduced, everyone said, "Ah! I was very impressed by the many questions that people asked me after watching the animation.
What was your impression of Ms. Yoshine?
Minase: I thought the world view of Jun-chan created by Ms. Yoshine was very wonderful. She was very kind and had an aura about her.
What were some of the difficulties or challenges you faced in working on both the animated and live-action films?
Minase: In the live-action filming, I went through many takes without knowing where I was on the screen. There was a sense of excitement and tension that I didn't know until it was finished. When I saw the finished film, I thought, "There are high school girls like that, aren't there? I thought. The natural makeup made me look nice, imo, and friendly, and I was a chameleon. If some of you don't know where I was in the film, does that mean I was good at it?
Shimizu: Actually, I also appeared in two places.
Mizuse: What? That's more than me, isn't it? (Laughs)
■Mizuse-san, what did you think of the completed live-action movie?
Mizuse: It was a rare experience for me to be both a voice actor for the anime and a live-action actor for the other "KOKOSAKE" that I was involved in. I think "KOKOSAKE" is a drama full of humanity, and I think the live-action version made it more realistic as a coming-of-age ensemble drama. I sincerely hope that many people will be able to watch it.
