A special website for "The Galaxy Express 999," celebrating its 40th anniversary, is now open! New project to be announced on 999 Day (September 9, 2017)

It has been announced that a commemorative project for "Galaxy Express 999," a science fiction work written by Leiji Matsumoto that marks the 40th anniversary of its release, will be held starting this year.



Galaxy Express 999" is a science fiction manga written by Leiji Matsumoto that was serialized in "Shonen King" (Shonen Gahosha) from 1977 to 1981, and became a social phenomenon when it was made into an animated TV series from 1978 to 1981. Set in a future world where wealthy people are mechanized and enjoy eternal life, the epic story follows Tetsuro Hoshino, the main character whose father was killed by a machine count, who boards the Galactic Express 999 with a mysterious beauty and family friend, Mater, and travels through space in search of a star that will give him a machine body.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the release of the original "The Galaxy Express 999," and on September 9, 2009, the day of the three nines (999), an announcement will be made regarding future commemorative projects.

Ahead of the 999 Day, a special site for the 40th anniversary project was opened today, August 8, 2009. Scrolling through the site or clicking on the dotted images, the viewer can enjoy the world of "The Galaxy Express 999" through the dotted images of the main character, Tetsuro Hoshino, Mater, and the 999. The famous scene, which is probably the most memorable for fans of the original, is also reproduced.


2017 marks the 40th anniversary of the manga, 2018 marks the 40th anniversary of the anime adaptation, and 2019 marks the 40th anniversary of the film adaptation. In addition, 2018 will mark the 80th birthday of Leiji Matsumoto, and there will be many commemorative events.
