A new Spider-Man, completely different from the previous Spider-Man

Have you ever seen any of the past "Spider-Man" films?

Enoki: Actually, I have only seen the past series on TV when I was little, but I have never seen the entire "Spider-Man" series properly.

I heard that you auditioned for this film, but did you watch any related films when you auditioned?

Enoki: When I auditioned, I was obliged to keep confidentiality, so I didn't know what kind of work it was until the day of the audition, so I didn't watch it beforehand. But I had a feeling that I might be able to see it. I was not informed that I was auditioning for "Spider-Man," so I did not watch the movie in preparation for the audition.

Did you watch any related films after you were chosen for the role?

Enoki: No. Peter's character in "Spider-Man: Homecoming" is completely different from his previous works, so I didn't want to solidify my image of him by watching his previous works.

I was not going to mention it because I didn't want to solidify my image of the character by watching your previous works.

Enoki: I have the impression that the film is much brighter this time than in the past. There are no naïve parts such as strong conflicts, and the film depicts a boy's dream to work as a hero, so I think it is a film that you can really feel good about watching.

Please tell us about Peter, the character you played.

Enoki: In all the previous "Spider-Man" films, there is a scene where Uncle Ben dies, and I think that's where he struggles with how to use his powers as a hero, but this time, the story starts after that scene is over. I think that in every "Spider-Man" scene, there was a struggle about how to use your powers as a hero! I did it!" The story begins with a 15-year-old boy who happens to start playing the hero, so it is a story of Peter's awakening as a hero and ultimately growing up as Spider-Man. So, in a nutshell, Peter is just an ordinary high school student anywhere (laughs).

(laughs) I felt that he is a boy who grew up with the same feelings as when he was a boy, yearning to be a Sentai hero, as they say in Japan.

Enoki: That's right. He is a character who has a yearning for American comic books and wants to be a hero after seeing Iron Man and the others, and now he has the chance to be a hero himself.

Peter had already appeared in "Civil War: Captain America," but did you feel that Peter has grown since then in this film?

Enoki: It was shortly after the previous film "Civil War: Captain America," so I don't think much has changed. I think he is just an ordinary boy who genuinely yearns to be a hero.

What do you think is Peter's charm?

Enoki: I think it's his naivete. He really likes and admires heroes, and his desire to be one comes to the fore. He is attractive in the cute way he expresses this feeling of "I want to be a hero!

The other heroes are already established heroes.

Enoki: The other heroes have experienced so much that they seem to have reached a certain level of perfection, but I think Peter is a character who still has a lot of room to grow in that aspect.
