Sung like a fighter, EGOIST's new single "Hero: Poem of Destiny" was as powerful as it sounds!

EGOIST's new single "Hero: Poem of Destiny," the opening theme song for the TV anime "Fate/Apocrypha," has been released for the first time in almost one year and three months. The song is a symphony-like song with a deep and powerful sound that is worthy of its grandiose title. For the vocalist, chelly, the theme of the song was to "sing like a fighter, putting all the power I have into it.

I sang the song with all the drawers I have opened up so far.

─ How did you feel when you learned that you would be in charge of the opening for the "Fate" series?

chelly I was happy to be involved in such a big and historic work. I was also very excited to know that EGOIST's music would be able to color "Fate", a work with a dark worldview that I like.

─ ─ "Hero: Poem of Destiny" is a perfect song for the world of "Fate. What were your first impressions of the song?

chelly: Another magnificent song. In the demo stage, it was just electronic sounds, but when I got an idea of the whole song, I knew that with an orchestra and choir, the depth of sound was going to be incredible. I shuddered, but I knew it would be worth singing. When I finished the song, it turned out to be a great success. It became a more powerful song than "KABANERI OF THE IRON FORTRESS".

─ ─ Like "KABANERI OF THE IRON FORTRESS," it is a song that is not easy to write.

chelly Yes. This time, too, it's not a song you can easily hum along to (laughs).

─ How was the recording process?

chelly: The theme of the recording was "to put all my energy into it and sing it as if I were fighting. I thought it would take a long time to record because it is a difficult song, but it was surprisingly easy. 2 or 3 years ago, it would have taken much longer, so I felt like I had matured.

───What exactly were the areas in which you felt growth?

chelly: With each song, ryo-san opened up more and more drawers in me, and I think I became more dexterous. I felt this most with "Reloaded". The three songs in that single were completely different from each other, so I felt I was given the mission to bring out various colors.

─ Did "Hero: Poem of Destiny" also open up new drawers for you?

chelly It's not so much that I opened new drawers, but rather that I added all the drawers I had opened up to this point. The song is a mixture of various ways of singing, and that's why I felt it was difficult.

─ ─ Does that mean that ryo-san asked you to sing in various ways?

chelly I myself decided to sing it that way. As for the main melody, ryo gave me very little direction. The lyrics of "Hero: Poem of Destiny" are easy to understand, so it was easy to imagine how I should sing each part.

─ ─ It is true that the lyrics seem to follow the story of "Fate/Apocrypha" in a straightforward manner.

chelly I thought the lyrics were really honest. There are many words that link to the work. The title is also easy to understand. It wasn't attached when we recorded the song, and I found out about it later, but I thought it was like a symphony.

──What did you pay special attention to during the recording?

chelly: The A melody has a lot of blank space, so I tried to keep my emotions inside, and from the B melody, I gradually intensified the song and sang it in a crescendo all the way to the end of the chorus.

───The finished song also included a male choir.

chelly: That added another layer of depth to the song. The variety of sounds in the instruments was amazing. But the overall balance was good, and I think it turned out to be a cool song.
