Monobright and Hiroyuki Deguchi's "Just Shut Up and Listen to Anime Songs! in Summer 2017"

Hello to the 10 million anime fans in Japan. I am Deguchi, the bass player of Monobright and a DJ who mainly plays anime and special effects songs. Whenever a new season of anime is released, my column "Just Shut Up and Listen to Anime Songs! The last column for the spring anime season was very well received, so I'm here again to talk about the best anime songs of this season.

For those of you who are new here, let me explain a little about this column, "Just Shut Up and Listen to Anime Songs! I've listened to all the theme songs (openings and endings) of the new season's anime titles and selected the 10 best anime songs of the season from the perspective of a bassist and a DJ. Please keep in mind that this is not a ranking but a selection, and that the songs (and anime works) are not listed in order.

Now, before we get into the music selection, let's review the trends of this season's 2017 summer anime productions.

There are 49 summer anime titles this season. The general trend is that many of them are sequels to popular works with high name value. In terms of attention, "Saiyuki RELOAD BLAST," the newest installment of the Saiyuki series, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary, and "Mahoujin Guruguru," which is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its original serialization, must have excited fans very much. I am also a member of the generation that is in the middle of the "Majigen Guruguru" generation, and I am very happy to see Guruguru on TV again.

Looking at the genres of the works themselves, there is such a wide range of works that it would be easy to skip over the expression "rich in variety" by about 100 levels. In addition to the conventional genres, what is particularly impressive is the inclusion of full-fledged "perverted sexual expressions. There have been "erotic anime" in the past, but I think this season's broadcast of works with this level of perversion is quite impressive.

It is not a matter of "Wow, they are broadcasting extreme eroticism! but the high level of literacy to calmly watch such excessive and perverted expressions as anime works may be one of the achievement points of the Japanese anime culture.

I digress. Anyway, it can be said that a characteristic of this season's anime productions is that there are many works with a wide range of content.
