la la larks released their first single "ego-izm" in June 2014. la la larks is a talented band that has sung two anime tie-in songs so far. Led by vocalist Tomomi Uchimura, formerly of School Food Punishment, the band consists of members with experience playing in various bands. They have created their world view mainly through their live performances.
Their first album "Culture Vulture" is finally completed. Five years after the band's formation, many fans have been eagerly awaiting this album, which is a tour de force of high quality songs! For anime fans, Maaya Sakamoto's participation in the chorus is also noteworthy.

This album is an album in which we have done everything we can do right now.

This year marks the fifth anniversary of la la larks' formation. The release of the first album comes at a good time.

Uchimura: I think we were able to make the release of the album the main event to celebrate our 5th anniversary. The members feel that time has passed before we knew it, but being able to release the album made us realize that it was our 5th anniversary.

─ ─ In addition to the singles and coupling songs you have released so far, the album contains seven new songs.

Uchimura: This is the first time the songs have been released on CD, but many of them are songs that we have been performing live for a long time. So, rather than new songs, they are songs that we have been developing over time. Only the first song "Massive Passive" and the 11th song "Reset" were written from scratch for the album.

─ So, you mean that there are songs that you have continued to play since the formation of the band?

Uchimura: Yes. Self," "Lose," "Sayonara Waltz," and "loop" are songs that we have continued to play live since the band was formed five years ago. When we recorded them in the studio, we found that we wanted to tweak them in various ways, for example, this part sounded boring, or we were a bit tired of this part. I felt that by recording the songs, we were able to make them complete. There are a number of songs that showed new faces to us as well.

Do the members of "la la larks" have careers in other bands, and do you ever clash with each other about the direction of your performance during the recording process?

Uchimura: No, we don't (laughs). Even when all five of us are working together, it is Eguchi-san who takes the lead. Since Mr. Eguchi is also an arranger, I trust him to control the quality of the music and the direction of the performance. His direction often makes me think, "I see what you mean. Then, the individual players sometimes add their own arrangements.

Tatsuya Uchimura: So, you are satisfied with the way you do things with "la la larks"?

Uchimura That's right. From the very beginning of the band, we all trusted Eguchi-san's sense and compositions. We all developed it through live performances, and the current sound was created.

───That is to say, this album must have been a point of achievement for la la larks, don't you think?

Uchimura: I feel that we were able to put out everything that we are capable of today. The drummer, Mr. Turkey, exaggeratedly said, "I wouldn't mind if this became my last work" (laughs). (Laughs.) So he is that satisfied with the final product. Of course, no one thinks this is the end.

─ ─ Do you think we have a good collection of songs?

Uchimura: That was one thing, but the most important thing was that we were provided with a very favorable production environment. We were able to produce all the songs and the entire process at Victor Studios. I can only thank Flying Dog for that.
