The Night is Short and the Walking Maidens" is an animated film based on the best-selling novel by Tomihiko Morimi (KADOKAWA Kadokawa Bunko). It is a coming-of-age love story about a "senior" who has feelings for a "black-haired girl" who is a junior in his club, and tries to "catch her eye" as much as possible. The film depicts the love story of the "senpai" who struggles to get involved in unusual incidents caused by his unique friends in Kyoto. The film is directed by Masaaki Yuasa, written by Makoto Ueda (Europe Kikaku), and the original character design by Yusuke Nakamura.
⇒ "The Night is Short and the Walking Girl", a novel by Tomihiko Morimi, will be adapted into an anime film! Singer-songwriter Gen Hoshino will play the role of the main character, Senpai.

At the Ottawa International Animation Film Festival held in Ottawa, Canada from September 20 (Wed.) to 24 (Sun.), the animated film "The Night is Short and the Walking Maidens" won the Grand Prix in the feature film category. This was the first time for a Japanese film and a Japanese director to win the Grand Prix in the feature film category at the festival. The 41st edition of the festival received 1,992 submissions from 85 countries, and five films were nominated for the Feature Film Competition, including Yuasa's "Yoru wa tanashi aru no uta" and "Yoru wa tanashi arukete yo otome". This was the first time in the festival's history that two films by the same director were nominated in the Feature Film Competition at the same time, and it became a hot topic of conversation at the festival.

Director Masaaki Yuasa said, "I have very good memories of visiting Ottawa four years ago for my short film "Kick Heart. It is such an honor to receive an award in Ottawa. Congratulations to the crew! To the cast! I would be very happy if even more people could see it! A maiden walking the streets of Kyoto is also walking the world.
