The interview and gravure features Kaede Motoi, Ayaka Sengi, and Nisako Tojo talking about the appeal of the characters and the difficulties they faced in playing them!

The completely original TV anime "Anime Gatarisu" will start airing on October 8 (Sun.), 2017 on TOKYO MX and other stations. Akiba Research Institute has picked up this highly anticipated work, which will be broadcast as a special program on October 1 (Sun.) prior to the broadcast of the full-length anime!　We will be focusing on interviews with the cast and staff members, as well as their thoughts on the work and its charms.

This time, we interviewed three of the cast members who play the main characters and sing the ending theme "Good Luck Lilac" as the unit "GATALIS": Kaede Hotochi (Asagaya Minoai), Ayaka Sengi (Kamiigusa Arisu), and Nisako Tojo (Koenji Miko).

Conscious of "not making up a voice

--Please tell us about the appeal of this work and what you would like us to see in it.

Hondo: "Anime Gatari's" has a dual structure of telling an anime story within an anime story, which is the flavor of the film. I think the playfulness that can be achieved by dealing with anime and the free-spiritedness in using anime are the weapons of this work, so I hope you will check it out.

--In addition to the lively and fun atmosphere, there are hints of mystery.

SENPONGI: It's Neko-senpai.

Hondo: The person with the hat and yellow jacket is also noteworthy. Also, as for Minoa, the moment when her eyes change color and her actions before and after opening the clubroom door (in the future) have an impact on the future.

Tojo: I think there are many parts of the story that get lost in everyday life, so I think it would be fun to look for them.

Sengoku But I hope you enjoy the rest of the story in a normal way!

--The characters in the show are unique, aren't they?

Tojo That's right. Not only the students, but also the teachers have their own unique personalities. There is also a cast of splendid voice actors, and the characters really have a lot of color. I feel this strongly from the story and from the flow of the play, so I think you will be able to enjoy it from various angles.

--Please tell us about the characters you play, how you see their cuteness, and what you paid attention to when you played them.

Hondo: Minoa is a very cheerful and considerate girl. However, she is influenced and pushed around by others, and when she is influenced or pushed around, she makes a face that says, "That's not a face a girl would make. I think that's cute, too.

When I auditioned for the role of Minoa-chan, I was told to use a normal voice for the test because I sounded like an elementary school student. Because of that, no matter how cute the scene was, I said, "I'm not going to make up a voice! and I put emphasis on things that I am not usually conscious of. I was conscious of the fact that I wanted to act naturally and spontaneously (......).

--Do you find it difficult to act naturally?

Hondo: The more I make up the character at home, the harder it is to respond instantly to what I am told on set, so when I practice at home, I only look at "this length" and "this expression. I hope to be able to handle the rest on the spot by interacting with other people.

Sengoku: When I stand in front of the microphone, I tend to get self-conscious and think, "The character is cute, so I have to be cute. It's very difficult for me to respond to their reactions without thinking about it at all, and to be in my natural state.

Tojo: After all, we are transcending dimensions, and the third dimension becomes the second dimension (laughs). (laughs) You have to make sure that there is no sense of distortion of time and space.

Sengoku: Yes, it is difficult to be natural in the second dimension.

--The Alice you play is a young lady, and she shines in the scenes in which she appears.

Sengoku: She is sparkling, and I like Sebas (the butler) (laughs).

I think Alice's clumsy character, or rather her honesty, is very cute, and her unexpected short stature is also cute. She is also cute because she is as tall as Minoa's eyes, even though she is so overbearing and condescending, saying things like, "Why don't you just spend the money? I see."

--She also has a big gap between when she's being ladylike and when she's talking about anime.

Sengoku: I don't really feel the gap myself. I judge people by whether they are trustworthy or not, and I shut them down by saying, "I talked to this person because she said she liked anime, but in fact I didn't know her, so it's not the same. That part was not so difficult.

Rather, there were times when I would lose the "ojousama" (young lady) in some parts of my performance, and I would be asked to be a little more ladylike. I also felt that she had a lot of power to get everyone involved in the beginning.

--By the way, are you actually a young lady, too?

No, I am not. I am a very commoner (laughs).

Tojo: If there was a lady next to me, I would be very nervous (laughs).

(laughs) --Tojo, how do you feel about playing the role?

Tojo: I wanted Miko to be a "super nerdy girl. She is a character who reads novels in the corner, so I was conscious of the fact that she is not good at socializing and showing off in her voice.

--What do you think is cute about Miko?

Tojo: Her geeky side (laughs). (laughs) I can sympathize with her in that she is a straightforward geek.
